I don't mind if the little one's who dress up and make a good attempt at it (and are supervised), but it seems to have been hi-jacked by chav teenagers around most of the country-I see it as nothing more than begging with menaces.
I asked three of them (without costumes) who came banging on my door, that I would give them £10 each if they could tell me what he origins were, and what the significance of T&T was. Three blank stares, followed by one of them saying "Trick or Treat!". So I told them to F*** off and not to bother anyone else.
I don't know the origins either-who can throw some light on it?
When a kid, I used to do "Penny for the Guy", but haven't seen any kids doing it for years. Has anyone?

Posted: Sat Nov 05, 2005 5:12 pmIt was originally a pre-Christian Celtic thing. Something about the souls of the dead looking for bodies to inhabit. The costumes where to throw them off.
