1988 ETZ125 MOT until September

Postby mr_luke » Tue Mar 13, 2012 5:06 pm

I'm hoping to MOT my new ETZ 250 this weekend, which means my 1988 ETZ125 will be surplus to requirements.

It's MOT'd until September 28th, and is currently taxed until September 1st. Unfortunately due to the new Continuous Insurance rules I'll have to SORN it within a week or so of the insurance being swapped over on Saturday, so the new owner might have to lay out a huge £16 to retax it. The mileage is reasonably low, at just under 17000.

Cosmetically, it's perhaps a little bit challenged (the best MZs are!), but in general I'd say it's in pretty good condition. I'm using it for work every day which is a 30 mile round trip, and it's proved to be incredibly reliable. First or second kick every morning, whatever the weather. I also went up to the MZRC winter rally in Yorkshire on it! The biggest problem it's got is that the gearchange return spring broke just before Christmas. Since then I've been riding around with a bungee tied to the gear lever, which has worked surprisingly well! The coil was missing when I got the bike, and one from a 2CV is currently fitted, as that was what I had in the shed!

The photo below is when I got it last summer. I'll try and take some more up-to-date photos at the weekend if anyone's interested. As you can see it's the Standard model with a drum front brake (which actually seems to work!), no oil pump, and no rev counter.

I'm looking for £300 as it is (you can have the gearchange return bungee for free) or £350 with the spring replaced.

I'm in Coventry, and you'd be welcome to come and have a look if you wanted to. my email address is luke.duller@gmail.com or you can PM me on here.

Gearchange sorted! It turns out the dowel the spring acts against had come adrift, rather than anything actually breaking.

Now on ebay:
