Hope for MZ Motorrad-Bauer
Ex-racing driver Ralf Waldmann and Martin Wimmer want to buy factory - 19 March is the deadline for funding

Zschopau. New hope for the motorcycle manufacturer Zschopauer: The two former Grand Prix racer Ralf Waldmann and Martin Wimmer want the MZ factory in Hohndorf buy. "We have the new company Zschopauer engine works in Chemnitz in the commercial register," said on Friday the 42-year-old Waldmann of the "Free Press". Under this name the company was in 1922 by the Danes Skafte Jörgen Rasmussen founded and before the gates at the present Zschopaus Bundesstraße 174 located.

By 19 March is the financing. "It is 98 percent safe, even if it currently is very difficult to get money," said Waldmann. He and his partner plan, with 70 employees in Zschopau the development and final assembly of motorcycles and scooters displaced. The parts production, however, will take place in the Far East. The Partner by Waldmann operates in Shanghai, China a long time a company that also for the quality control to ensure. "In Germany, the production is too expensive," says the vice-champion twice Waldmann, the racing should be responsible, inter alia, the return to the sport enduro aspires. "We want the traditional site and brand," explains his motivation. MZ had on 31 December 2008 ceased trading and since only parts produced.

At state assistance in the purchase, the potential investors, but not set. "The Free State has a great interest that the traditional site is maintained. For a takeover, however, no money can flow", it was from the Saxon Ministry of Economy. For research, development and investment to create jobs on the other hand, funding could be sought. Steve Yap, MZ-CEO of the Hong Leong Malay owner, was a statement not to be achieved.

This follows a short peice in a german weekly sports newpaper Speedweek earlier in the week indicating the same thing.

doing final assembly of small bore bikes manufactured in the far east could be a start for the new company. The speedweek article hinted at the production of 250 off road bikes to compete with ktm as well.

On the 19th we should know more and see if these people are serious or much like the wankel engine bid an exercise in rasing interest in their already existing companies.
