Saxon series-how many where imported?

Postby 95SaxonTour » Sat Aug 01, 2009 9:51 am

I'm relatively new to the MZ world. Anyone know how many
of the Rotax Saxon bikes where imported into the US?

I see alot of Countrys listed here to but few tours and
no Fun Tours.

Yeah, mine looks just like yours. Black and it has the optional
hard bags and rack. That was the major selling point. The other
being that I had the chance to ride one that a friend of mine had
on a trip from PA to newfoundland, Canada. He has a country and
for a 500 thumper, It held its own. Considering it was packed to
the brim with gear and was hauling my 230 pound arse. A little
slow, but keep in mind I'm used to my 86 Suzuki GS1150ES. (I like
to rub it into the BMW crowd I run with by saying "Its the ONLY real
GS1150) lol!

I like the enclosed chain drive system. It took a while to figure out
the whole rear wheel configuration, but I got it together and it seems
to be working well. Weird axel bolt deal was confusing too.

I dont like the incredibly messy oil change procedure.

These bikes seem to be quite rare. The motorcycle guys at the
local shop had absolutely no idea what a MZ Saxon tour was much
less if they had a oil filter for it. I said 504 Rotax and the Can
Am dude knew what I was talking about. Four bucks out the door.

i find the handling good on the saxon tour but a bit funny..
its quick and not for girl watching it drifts when you look away will put you in the ditch
if you day dream
and it may be my tires but it stinks on wet pavement
also has short turn the stops are close made a turn into my driveway and almost took out the mail box
watch it when riding one for the first time
and if you own one do not give idiots test rides bike is to rare to tear up
breather line from top of motor to oil tank replace it ...bikes are getting older and its a beast on the road to fix...

change spark plug to dpr8ea-9 thin wall 18mm wrench required makes motor run better

One period road test I read quoted the importer as saying only 50 of each model were imported in '95.

One less Rotax powered Tour now - my buddy Joseph sold his sans engine to a member here. I bought the engine and will be installing it in an '82 KTM 504 chassis.

I don't find the oil change to be particularly messy if a little thought is applied beforehand. I have a small hand pump and suck most of the oil out of the frame backbone "tank" with it. I drain the remainder into an oil bottle cut to fit up under/around the banjo bolt. For the filter change, I've cut a drain pan to slip under the housing out of aluminum flashing. Easiest to remove the countershaft sprocket cover first. Still a little manages to get past my catch bottle and pan, but it's easily cleaned up or absorbed with Oil Dry mats. YMMV.

No, black. Sold two weeks ago.

I too saw the red one at VMD @ Mid-Ohio and tried in vain to find the seller.
