Greetings from Arizona, USA

Postby Road Weazel » Mon Mar 08, 2010 12:08 am

Greetings! I just bought a '96 Skorpion and will be searching the posts and asking a few questions, I'm sure. This actually isn't my first MZ. I have a 1971 ES125/G (supposedly these are extremely rare) in the garage as well. My plans for the Skorp are to make it a track bike to learn more about riding a 'sportbike', compared to the standard style bikes that I've been riding for 25 years. I currently work in the motorcycle industry, where I've been for the past 16 years in one form or another. I've had several modern Triumphs and currently have a vintage '78 Tiger in the garage, next to my '74 Harley-Davidson Sprint dirtbike, Sportster Sidecar Rig and my ZX14 Kawasaki.
I'm looking forward to building up my somewhat knackered MZ Skorpion into a fun little bike.
All the best!

Welcome !!
Nice pictures,I never saw shocks on the front of a bike like that. Looks like a front swing-arm.Looks pretty rare to me.

I see the plate says 1971 but it looks older.I like the headlight also.Nice bike. That ZX14 would make an awesome track bike

Welcome Weazel,

Your bike reminds me of my very own 1975 ES 150/1. Same plastic headlight ring - those things are pretty rare.

Yeah, those shocks at the front had me confused me for a while. I rode it backwards for the 1st 2 months. Haha.

Anyway, all the best from Scotland.

Nice ES on ebay Germany. That's actually where I found my ES125/G back in '04. The street version is somewhat common but the 'G' (offroad version) is impossible to find.
As for the Sidecar, it's a real hoot to drive; very different from riding a motorcycle. Imagine a very small convertible car that has handlebars, shakes and sounds like a Harley, requires great effort to turn left and wants to flip over every time you turn right. That's pretty much what a sidecar is like. It's a lot of fun! :-D

Myself with our dawg, Jolie. She's starting to get the hang of it.

Christmas '09. Yes, we all fit in/on the bike, but I really need to gear it down a tooth on the front pulley. Uphill standing starts were interesting...

My passenger for the two Toy Runs we did last year. He was great, never complaining even when 'flying the chair'
