MZ 1000 Radiator and oil cooler

Postby roloscotusa » Thu Jan 09, 2025 9:43 pm

Hi,

I wanted to know if the radiator and oil cooler used on the MZ 1000 were used on any other motorcycle or are unique to MZ. I would also like to know if radiator and oil cooler guards are available. I know there aren't any MZ, but some might be available for other motorcycles using the same radiator and oil cooler. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Since I last posted, which has been quite a while, I have customized my MZ 1000s. The faring and the twin headlight have gone. I have replaced it with a single headlight and mini faring from MotoDemic. I had to make custom headlight arms to accommodate the clocks. I also fabricated a custom holder for the clocks. I have removed the clip-on bars and replaced them with headstock and bars from a dealer in Germany that had developed some aftermarket parts. Interestingly, he would not ship to the US, so I had to ask a friend in Germany to ship them to me.

It will be harder to keep these bikes on the road because the availability of spares is becoming more problematic.

Nice job roloscot, it'll be a lot easier to ride with a 'normal' headstock. I put some risers made for an Aprilia on my 1000S, but it's still a bit of a reach. Does yours have a 190/55 rear tyre or a 180/55?

I installed Dunlop Mutants (190/55). I love these tires. The grip, especially in the wet, is impressive.

This is the German shop where I purchased my headstock and got a replacement alternator.

According to them, the magnets disintegrate and cause severe damage to the engine. My original one had cracks in the magnets. Please take a look at the attached photo. I think you should check it.

These folks seem like a very professional engineering shop.

roloscotusa, Your S looks great striped down. I have always wanted SF handlebars on my 1000s as clip-ons aren't comfortable for long periods.
Post some more pics of the front if you don't mind.
Thanks
