Seeking suggestions on cleaning fuel system

Postby Nozz » Mon Oct 03, 2005 4:27 pm

I have a '94 Rotax powered 500 with the old Silver Star steel tank. I decided to try cleaning out the tank and petcock in the course of troubleshooting a fuel supply problem. My question for the group is what is the best way to accomplish cleaning the tank? Do I need to soak it in a gallon of B-12 overnight or ??? Thanks in advance.

just use some fresh gas
the floats in the bing carb may get upset at any cleaners you use
and remove the petcock(fuel valve) and clean it
also watch the fuel line for kinks i was having funny running
one day and it was a pinched fuel line

yamaha sells a tank cleaning/treating kit for very inexpensive. it has 2 chemicals, one removes the deposits, the next preps the surface for longevity. I forget the part number, but a good parts guy should know it. if I remember it was less than $30.00.
