Losing power on pull of. Some tech help plz

Postby tony211289 » Tue Apr 16, 2013 9:47 am

Hay guys. I have an ETZ 125 and this one problem ruins the whole riding experience for me.

From a pull off (at times, not always) when I let out the clutch lever and give it some revs the biting point just disappears. So the bike stands there reving like crap and not moving. I have to change the gear or pull in the clutch lever in and out a few times for it to get the biting point.

NOW.

As my mechanical experience is 0. I'm guessing this is a problem with the clutch, seems logical. Is this a clutch slip? Or the discs are old and need replacing?

What could be the problems?

Thanks.

just have to have a look
sounds like some thing hanging up and making clutch slip
that edge where i put the red mark can some times be filed back smooth and made to work
from what your saying sounds like some thing is sticking and making it slip
or you have some very weak springs

check also the sprocket on the transmission to the rear wheel
is the nut tight
the sprocket may be falling off i have seen this more than once
a clutch cable thats partly broken in the cable housing can hang up also

As Dave says, I think you have a problem with something worn and/or in need of lubrication, dropping the clutch from engaging, rather than worn out friction plates. To start with I would check the handlebar lever and the cable move freely without catching. Then I'd take the alternator cover off: inside the cover the cable acts on a lever which is "screwed" into splines machined into the cover. Check that this lever is moving freely without catching anywhere. I think there is a grease nipple on the splines. There should be a return spring between the lever and the cover, so make sure that is present and in good condition. The lever acts on a steel rod which runs through a hole in the middle of the gearbox mainshaft. As above, check the rod moves freely without catching. You should be able to pull it out and check it's not bent or otherwise damaged.

If you still have no luck, further investigation will require you to take the clutch cover off the other side of the engine. You'll need to drain the gearbox oil first, and you *might* find you need a new gasket upon reassembly. If you get as far as removing the three shouldered bolts which hold the clutch pressure plate in, be very careful not to overtighten them when you put them back in - they're very easy to snap.

Good luck!

Thank you!

That was some very nice and clear instructions. I have as gasket set just incase I need one so thanks for the heads up.

I will have a tinker and fix that pesky problem.

All the best
