ignition coil

Postby hutchy » Sun Oct 26, 2008 5:14 pm

Hi everyone, Im thinking of fitting a high voltage ignition coil to my baghira to maybe squeeze a little more power out of it, I was thinking of a dyna coil or something similar, the bike is fitted with a bsm can with homemade db killer fitted( Idon't know how anyone could ride without one, stupidly loud!!)
I would appreciate any advice from people with real experience in this field ie Bill J not some nut who just spends his time thinking up crap to fill the site with, sorry for that but there is some propper s**t writen on this site that doesn't help anyone

Thanks and sorry again.......Hutchy

\hi,
I don't have any experience with coils from DYNA. I use a "MotoCoil" from SilentHektik. I have this one in both the blue and green MZs and together with the TwinCoil in the 180º 3-cylinder Laverda which uses a SH ignition. MY race engine used a SH ignition as well.

Bill,

didn't You have experience with the ignitech ignition system also? I was thinking about such one for my Baghira as it is almost the same price as the modification of the ignition box done by Tunebike (approx. 100€).
By the way, do you feel the difference with those SH ignition coil? Cause I have here 2 BMW R80's lieing around, and as most poeple know the ignition of the BMW boxers isn't fanastic, especially in higher rpm's.

Yes, I use the Ignitech Sparker TCIP4 in both bikes and am very happy with it and with Jan and his shop. Not as it is delivered but with my own settings. I can send you the file if and when you might need it.

Re SilentHektik and BMW:
Tony has a complete ignition for the 2-valve boxers:
http://www.silent-hektik.de/BMW_Z1.htm
it completely replaces the distributor and mechanical spark advance and is not expensive by Tony's standards: 297€ if you retain the standard coils and plug leads. Or you get the box with new coils and leads. I can definitely recommend SilentHektik even if Idon't have handson experience with this.

Bill,

I received the ignitech ignition this week. If possible, your ignition settings are welcome! Except the tunebike exhaust-pipes,the tunebike carb kit and another muffler. Nothing is changed on my engine.
