BUSTED SHIFTER

Postby drj » Tue Dec 30, 2008 3:35 pm

i recently was riding home one dark & stormy night when the shifter snapped off as i was exiting the freeway (thankfully in neutral - what luck!!)

ordinarily this wouldnt be a big deal - but as we all know getting parts nowadays is going to be difficult @ best...if not impossible.

does anyone have any info or ideas on this before i try to have a new one fabbed up outta billet aluminum or steel?

thanks

drj

PLEASE let us know what you find out, and if it's a fit, let's get it added to the parts swap sticky posting...

ok - its official...the XT shifter is a no go.

looked @ the part on the computer...and its not even close.
its the offset linkage setup that leads me to believe i will need a new one CNCd up here real soon.

i was able to have my old one welded - but it looks more like a 'backup' shifter than a 'primary' now. not to be trusted out in 'the nowhere'

will keep you all posted on the results.

Damn, but thanks for the update. If you find somebody to engineer a nice one for you, I bet there would be a few of us interested in purchasing these as well (I would probably buy 2, if the price were right). Perhaps knowing there were a few takers on these would help with the cost offset?

Would anybody else be in on this?

Ya know, these guys are local to us in Central CA--they might be hella expensive to hire for this kind of job, but it might be worth contacting them. Looks like from a note on their website that they're moving their shop location pretty soon, so it may not be a good time to drop-in on them, but I'll shoot them an email and see if they do one-off projects or could recommend somebody:

Let us know what you find out on your end.
Cheers-
