gear lever mods

Postby handsomejackuk » Tue Sep 01, 2009 4:04 am

Hi,

on the continued theme of baghira perfection. I had a little play last night with my gear lever, as i found the action a little vague to say the least.

what i did was completely remove the gear lever, and squash up the bracket on the frame with a longer bolt and some penny washer i now have a lever that is a very tight fit in the frame. i also altered the point at which the lever goes in to the gearbox and made it more of a 12.00 position.. seems a little better.

what i wanted to know, has anyone successfully fitted a better lever setup i.e. get rid of all the linkage / clevis pins and bolt straight to the gearbox output shaft. seems as though all the linkages and folding arrangement makes for a lot of play in the lever...

I know this has been covered in the scorpion but has this been done on baghira ?

Also the fold back lever on mine appears worn and gives a more vague feeling to the change, can this be changed for something solid....

xt660 setup could be an option.. may require some bending of the lever though

Any ideas ?????

Hi, I've just broken my 2nd aluminium gear lever on my baghira, replacement cost is £55, you are having a laugh at that price. . .
I looked around on the tinternet for a universal gear lever (kawasaki kmx 125/250 ones look about right) but I couldn't find any dimensions so ended up making my own from the old bits and some angle iron.

Initial road tests seem ok.
