Tail Tidy for 2001 Baghira

Postby Levi Nash » Tue Aug 10, 2010 5:20 pm

Hi Guys,

Just wanted some opinions on what i should do with the rear numberplate holder for my baghira. At the moment i don't really like it as it is.

What suggestions would you give to make it look a bit more appealing?

Thanks
Levi

My little Chinabike enduro had a similar set-up. The rear fender/tag bracket eventually broke the mild steel mount just below the tail light.
I made some strap mounts from aluminum strip to hold the tag in place and ditched the extra fender piece. It looked as neat as any of the aftermarket set-ups you can buy and didn't cost nearly as much... :D
I'll check and see if I have a picture when I get home (working today).

PS:
Here's a couple of pics of the outcome. I lost the ones showing the fabrication.
Before, the tag hung down just like the one on your Baggy.
Afterwards, it was tucked up right under the tail-light.

Here's what I did with mine.

I removed the rear subframe, cut off the steel 'loop' that comes down to hold the number plate, plus the little triangular fillets at the top of the loop. I then had the subframe powdercoated and bolted it back on the bike.

Then I ditched the original rear mudguard piece that sits under the rear fender. The piece I ditched was the bit that the rear light and indicators attach to.

The last thing to do then is get one of those 'universal' numberplate holders with indicator attachments (Motrax do them) and attach this to the rear fender. I did this by making an ally bracket that bolts to the cross-member at the back of the subframe - where the grabrails attach at the back.

The indicators are replced with smaller 'e' marked LED ones, and the rear light is replaced by a small 'e' marked LED unit that is attached to the underside of the read fender with a small ally bracket, some double sided foam-backed tape, and a small bolt through the bracket and fender.

Hope that gives you some ideas of what you can do ;-)
