Baghira Overheating

Postby darryn4 » Sun May 26, 2013 4:53 am

Hi All.. I have a stupid and expect a couple of you to shake your heads in dismay...

I have A MZ Baghira 660 And had to replace the water pipe at the bottom of the main radiator, as you can imagine once i removed the hose the water drained out & i noticed it was really dirty.. Once i replaced the pipe i decided to flush the radiator by removing the drainage bolt

After it drained i poured clean water in the radiator until the water coming out the drainage bolt was clean..I tightened everything up and refilled the radiator..

My concern is i started the bike up and within 10/15 seconds the exhaust pipes"Coming out the manifold" were VERY HOT,The motor was still cool...

I know the water pump is working and and there Is water running through the motor and the fan dos'nt switch on..

My concern are the HOT PIPES..of cause I know they get extremely hot BUT in such a short time?? Ive never really taken notice of how quick the pipes heat up

I'm just worried I've missed something or there is another problem.
Any suggestions??Or is this normal and I'm being paranoid???

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hi maty , I and many others here have reported the very same issue , My 04 baggy gets hot within 30 seconds and the heat from the headers is always worrying but i've been told not to worry "they all do it", its something to do with the wall thickness and overall size of the downpipes,,Ive just finished wrapping mine with exhaust wrap just to stop my leg burning,,lols,If your worried about engine overheating and causing a problem then just monitor your spark plug colours for an internal indication of your engine's health,I'm sure there are plenty "spark plug whisperers" on this site,

P.S I live in south africa and have yet to find a bike mechanic who will work on the bike...not many have even heard of an MZ let alone have spares

I very rarely admit to owning an mz when i'm talking to dealers,,say you got an zt600 or srx 660 and it an "oh yeh " response, say you got an mz and it usually the "door" response,,If you look at the alternative parts thread you'll understand very few parts on the bike are actually MZ.most parts are yamaha, ktm, and pattern parts from other jap bikes,

(Forgive me everyone if i just blasphemed.)
