Well, since we can go off-brand, here is my current stable.

Recently acquired Traveller. Great fun.

small end failure on rear cylinder,

yup. Rear cylinder is the problem one alright and not just for the small end by an means.

and finally a valve seat fell out.

let me guess: rear cylinder, too?

The valve seat thing wouldn't have been too bad if this was an unusual, Mick Walker racing used to keep oversize ones in stock :shock:

The heads on this one had a major overhaul partly to use unleaded fuel but principly because the rear cylinder was really gone, valve seats lose and turning and these not the first ones in there either. Guides were like old slippers, too. The rear head cannot be repaired again without serious and competent welding and complete remachining. Problem is, that there are practially no heads in decent condition to be had - or only for their weight in gold.
The quailty of the original castings leaves to be desired and the material itself is much too soft for the purpose. Beveldrives have to be pampered.
We used sintermetal rings available as rough stock to make valve rings, way oversized and harder than the dickens. there is a bit more on this on my blog.

I bought the bike in the middle of December and haven’t been able to ride it since I test drove it while wearing a full leg brace. It is bone stock with 8,000 km on it. I have to put tires, a rear brake light switch, and most likely a battery in it. I know the switch is a KTM part but I am not sure what the battery interchanges with. I will first try new electrolyte in it fist as money is tight right now.

Look elsewhere here on battery's. From what I understand, when a battery fails on one of these bikes it can take the ECU and possibly the Regulator/rectifier with it. Buying a cheap, new battery to use until the funds for a good quality one may be a better bet.
Don't know about others here, but with tyres I haven't found a better the fro the front than aa Avon Pro extreme wet. The best rears for the bike and my riding style (ie poor)seem to be either
Avon Distanza (160 section in SM compound, if you decide on a 150 section make sure you get the SM and not the harder version for off road bikes)
Avon Storm for long life
And for ultimate grip n the dry
Goldspeed Maxis cut slicks
Beware of using a Goldspeed cut slick on the front unless you want really quick steering and dont mind a twitchey front end at speed.

here's a few pics.the trailtech unit is fitted to a piece of stainless,which is folded over at the bottom to allow brake cable a smoother path across it,the little red led replaces oe temp warning light and was the only wire off bike i had to cut and join. all the mz warning lights and wiring fitted straight into unit even the holders were used.speedo magnet is screwed into the rubber thing in the wheel and m4 thread tapped into caliper bracket for pick up and calibrated it with gps after doing the 2 wheel rotation measurement.anyone know the price of new enduro wheels and tyres,side stand and speedo drive to suit wheel,but just bear wheels only,no discs etc,put mine that cam,e with bike on ebay,keep getting asked what i want for them,clueless to value and hope i don't regret it!!

A little heretical,my rides right now are our 1996 Yamaha SZR

not quite stock, it boasts above all the Termignoni Cup exhaust system which is beautifully made and very light as well. It has 35mm headers and all unions are spring secured slipon, even at the cylinder head ports. The can is the BSM Future for which I made an slipon adapter. The Termignoni can is unbelievably loud.
The SZR has a Mikuni TM34-65 connected to a modified original airbox and a CDI modified to 8400rpm. My own fixed pegs and first gear up shifting, using a MZ 175 shift lever put on backwards.

classic english 500cc twin with lowly 26hp but torque from idle. Unrestored, but with 1960ies café racer modifications that will not be undone.
I use this on an everyday basis.
