Hi,

anyone fitted a small universal digital water temperature guage just thought it would be nice feature to add... also what are the options for oil pressure switch ?

I just found a small digital voltemeter and added that to my dash and wired into switched live connection i post a pic up later..

Sorry I haven't done water gauge (older 2t MZ), but I also have a voltage display and wished to comment that they can be extraordinarily helpful, if only to diagnose things without even taking the bike apart.. and seeing problems whilst they occur, and not after the fact whilst you're in the middle of nowhere.

IMO a water temperature meter is just a nice-to-have (and might actually create another risk on leaking). When the coolant gets too hot, you'll see it coming out of the radiator cap, so then you know. In fact, I re-routed the drain line from the cap on my YZ upwards, so that I'm sure to see it when the engine starts to boil. But I've never heard of something like that happening in normal road use, and as long as it's not cooking, you know it's below 115 - 125°C (depending on coolant & cap pressure rating). And if you want to know if the engine is warm enough to open the throttle, use your hand. Nevertheless, it can be a nice feature, so go for it if you wish.

An oil temp meter might be more useful, and is a standard display on some bikes. That has no physical limitation (as opposed to liquid water, which will never go above the cooking temperature) and is probably a better indication of engine loading/health. And yes, an oil pressure gauge also seems a good idea; no idea where to place the sensor though.

I looked up that oil pressure for you, the XT600 book says

so if the 660 is same, that's not very useful. Indeed, very low pressure, at least there.
