Hey, So I hope I don't sound stupid here or anything, But I just bought a Dealer 2001 Super Moto with only 400 Miles. This is my first real bike and I'm not super mechanical, but I wanna keep it running perfectly. I am curious as to what I should do to keep it running so well. I lube the chain every other time I ride besides for that what else can I do. I also drive around in LA a lot so I'm stuck in lots of hellish traffic. Thanks in advance, you guys are awesome

the three most important things to remember:
1: change your oil often
2: change your oil often
3: change your oil often
Seriously, thumpers are notoriously hard on the oil, and they dont have the large oil capacity of bigger bikes, so changing it often is crucial. I change mine about every 1000-1500 mi.
Adjusting the valves and carbs every 3-4k will keep it running good, but if you arent too mechanically inclined, thats best left to a shop.

is it ok to use a synthetic oil? Will it make a difference and will the gaskets leak?

synth oil is fine, I actually prefer it.
There is some debate as to whether car oils are ok for bike use, personally I stick to motorcycle specific stuff, usually mobil1 moto4 synthetic.

the biggest difference between car and MC oils are their ability to deal with the crush loads of gears in the trans. the forces encountered in the trans can quickly break down an oil not designed for that. changin the oil reguarly is the best protection, and yes, synthetic oils will hold up better.
I use Pentosin synthetic 5W-40, it is a german brand, and is hard to find. my parts supplier stocks it at work, so it is the most affordable oil for me.
beware, not all "synthetic" oils are trully synthetic, so read carefully. when castrol came out with the syntec blended oil, they were sued by mobil, claiming that it was false advertising, and mobil lost. now, most oils sold as synthetic, are belnds of top shelf dino oil, and synthitecs. there are only a couple of 100% synthetic oils on the market, red-line being one of them, and they are very expensive. I am not saying that blended oils are bad, but some are better than others.
