I was given an only laid down once ( ) 99 Skorpion Sport cup and it has had the front end dismantled and parts errr hardware was lost. After looking around from the better part of a month and a half i have tracked down a new front brake disk/rotor and now that i have that i can reassemble the front end but to my surprise i have no caliper bolts ( the 2 that hold it to the fork) nor can i seem to locate the original brake line Banjo fitting. Can someone give me a lead on where i can get these parts so i can check this 1/2 of the bike off in my rebuilding process

Thanks..

M10x35 bolts in at least 10.9, better 12.8.
Banjo bolt is Brembo-standard M10x1. Should not be hard to get. Japanese standard is M10x1.25 so be careful. Go to a Ducati dealer if you can find anything else.
Look for Brembo parts online. The Grimeca crap are cheap Brembo copies. Best to throw them away, far away and mount the real thing from Brembo. Fits of course 1:1.

Ive seen many Brembo on skorpions, what Brembos fit exactly ?, do they use the existing skorpion break disk ?

the standard Brembo P4 30/34 40mm spaced 4 piston caliper found on about 85% of all modern (beltdrive cam) Ducatis: 600, 750SS, 900SS, all two-valve monsters. 851, 888,
then on the SZR, late TZR, Aprilia Mille, newer Guzzis, etc.etc.etc

here up close:
Image
here is my Toy. The 3"/17" front wheel is from a TRZ 125, the MotoParts cast iron full floating rotor from a FZR1000. The fork is the original Paioli RSU.
Like I wrote farther up, the Grimeca crap are cheap copies of the Brembos, they are indentical as far as the critical dimensions are concerned.
Fits 1:1
Of course they fit the rotor! BTW, I made the hollow axle that can be seen here. I have made a couple of them, but the stock hollow axle from the TZR or SZR also fit when one is changing to theYamaha(Brembo) wheels.

Just as information:
Yamaha owns Brembo; Brembo in turn owns both MotoParts and Paioli, which in turns owns Marchesini.
Yamaha also owns Öhlins.

this 13mm pump works fine, too. It is the model for the crummy Grimeca pump on the Skorpion.

5/8" Nissin pumps work just as well and are probably easier to get in the states.

rear calipers are less plentiful because there is no reason to upgrade a Brembo normally. Here is one:

wow thanks for all the help, my first property is to get the machine up and running in factory condition then after i ride for a bit before ill start upgrading. This is my first bike so i think i should get the basics down.

What i need now is a brake rotor.. is 145usd a fair price , for a new rotor from MZ, are there any direct replacements that i might be able to get easier ?

$145 is downright cheap for a new rotor.
EBC makes a replacement rotor for the Skorpion and supposedly some Honda Rotor fits as well. Been talked about here, so us the search to find the thread. I admit not knowing since I threw out the Grimeca wheels long ago, long before I would have needed a replacement rotor.

hi all

would the brembo front caliper from a 98 aprilia rs250 fit the skorpion?
it looks a little bit different...
Image
same 40mm spacing though!

thanks

yes it will fit, 100% sure

its cause i have the same one on mine

Image

*edit* i see that, like you said, tha aprilia caliper looks a bit different, sorry bout that, but i'm sure it will fit aswell. probalby an older/newer type. you will have to use other brake pads though...

NO, it will not fit. 100% sure. The one shown above on the Skorpion is NOT the same model. Look closely at what you are doing, don't just glance.
Apparently I was not very clear, even tho I posted many links along with the correct model number. Sometimes I get the idea I must be writing some foreign language nobody understands.
That one is, BTW, not a caliper from an Aprilia RS250. That is the later model with 65mm center-center fastening.
Compare the two:
ImageImage

It is easy to see the difference in photos because the caliper that fits has only a single pad retaining pin just like the Grimeca; the other has two.
The one you need, shown left, with 40mm fastening uses exactly the same pads as the Grimeca shit(bad copies as I said); the other uses completely different pads which are longer as well.
There are adapters to mount a 65mm fitting to a 40mm layout - and vice versa as well. Don't bother with that later model, tho, it is not as good as the one that fits because it is too long and is thus too flexible. The proper one can be improved, made stiff enough even for racing with the usual easy trick:
Image
The pin is replaced with a suitable M6 bolt for which threading is cut in the back half of the caliper. The bolt is only firmly laid on, not actually tightened and secured with a lock nut. This keeps the caliper from widening and returns a better, crisper feel. Such treatment is obviously not possible with the later caliper.
This later model abounds in eBay bacause it is routinely replaced with the present model:
Image
This model has two separate smaller pads but more important, it has the fixed bridge across the center; it is the same technically as the radial caliper:
Image
and it is relatively rare at eBay because there is no need to replace it.
There are after-market calipers with the 40mm fastening, center bridge and individual pads from ABM, PVM, Discacciati. These are all billet calipers and are expensive. I personally use the ABM, both billet caliper and billet radial pump, which I also sell.
http://www.ab-m.de/en/products/brake-technology/brake-calipers
Image
But I really only use it - it is very good! - because I sell them. You do not need anything like this or the 6 piston Harrison being discussed in another thread.
You don't need a 6 pot caliper at all. ever. Maybe in something as heavy as a truck - or a Harley...

thanks again bill.
i just saw these on ebay going for cheap and local to me so i thought i would ask...
i noticed once i had posted the picture that they were different.
and apparently the seller has no idea about them either.
that is the problem with ebay.

Bill.

Brilliant posts. It's tremendous news to find I can fit Brembo brakes. Can I use the standard pistons and reservoir? I'm not an expert on brakes. Or anything really.

I'm most interested in the rear brake replacement as my Grimeca is nothing but a headache. Are there any particular variations I should avoid? Do you know which other models have a similar fitting? You found a link to one in your earlier post. Aprilia RSV Mille? The banjo bolt holes are on the side rather than the top. Does that matter?

Thanks. Discovering this post has really cheered me up.

In the initial posting, I wrote:

Brembo copies. That means they are copies: look the same, have the same dimensions. Problem is, tho, that they are or inferior material and poorly machined. They are cheap. You get what you pay for. The XTZ-engined Skorpion Protoypes had Brembo allround. Brembo wheels, too.

Most of the Brembo rear calipers fit as far as the hole spacing is concerned, there is one slight problem, tho; on the Skorpion, the threading is in the caliper, the rest of the world has the threading in the brake plate. Thus, to mount the Brembo caliper, you must put HeliCoil (or TimeSert or something similar) inserts in the caliper. Any decent shop can do this for a modest fee - or should. Once again, this is the caliper:
Image
here, you can easily see both caliper and pump mounted on a Skorpion, albeit with SZR/TZR brake plate and SZR wheel:
Image
whether the banjo bolt is on the side or on top is irrelevant, most are on top, however. It also doesn' matter if the banjo is left and the vent right, or vice versa; they can be exchanged.
Brembo have the standard M10x1.
Most of the Brembo pumps will work and all should fit as far as the hole pattern is concerned:

I would not continue to use the the Grimeca pump, cause it is almost always the cause of the problems at the back. Of course the reservior is the same; it is just a plastic canister after all. You should replace the hose (not the brake line), tho, if you haven' already, because they go porous with time.
Use DOT4 brake fluid.
