Fairing Removal

I contemplate removing the fairing of my '99 Sport Cup to do all the work I've been saving for the winter months. It seems that I could keep the fairing screwed together, remove the bolts attaching the fairing to the bike, and lift the fairing off in one piece (saving a great deal of work). To let the fairing clear under the front wheel, I would suspend the bike's steering head with straps from the garage roof.
Would this work? Would it save any time?
In suspending the bike might the straps dislodge wires around the forks, and give me electrical issues?
