MZ/MuZ Riders

So I do a lot of touring on my MZ, and I was wondering if there were any companies that made larger tanks for the Baghira, and if anyone knows where I could find one. I'm willing to pay shipping from Europe or wherever a tank could be found. Anything larger than 3.3 gallons (12L?) would be great.

Damn i can't remember who did one...com e on you lot help this guy out...who the hell was it that made a bigger tank for the Baggy and Stiffy? GRRR! I can't get my brain in gear today!!!LMAO...

I think tunebike do a larger tank and an aux tank that fits in instead of the tool box. Rather expensive I think though and with the bigger tank you need to fit a different saddle.

there was a kit made in the past that used a KTM LC4 big tank and seat. it included brackets and instructions. don't remember who sold it though.... if you have some fabrication skills, i am sure you could make it work.

I was talking to Bernd down at Tunebike and he was saying their larger tank was a 96-98 KTM LC4 tank. According to their site, it held 22L. That would be great, but they no longer sell it, and I'm having a bit of trouble finding an older tank like that. Also, the tank would require a seat from 96-98, and, if I recall correctly, KTM seats have never been great for long distance.
The tour tank option sounds fairly attractive. They're pretty inexpensive and easy to mount, but that would take up some of my luggage space, which is already a little limited on the baggy.

I have thought about options too, maybe someone over in Europe could see if maybe a super Tenere tank may work? I know the XT600 I had, the tank I got from acerbis out of france was HUGE, and may fit over the frame. it was like 6.2 gallons. I still have the stock XT tank and could maybe ship it to you, then you could make that decision.

maybe an XR tank and seat? both the air cooled and water cooled XR's have good aftermarket support for tanks from clarks. what about DR stuff? If you have a good relationship with your local dealer they may let you try a few old tanks for fitment. If I had the time I would pursue this too.

Well, I shopped around and tried to shove a few different tanks onto my poor baggy, but to no avail. It looks like my best bet is to get a TourTank, but to achieve the range I was looking for, I'm going to get a 4 gallon tank. Problem is, these suckers look like they can only be mounted to the rear of the bike, and that's an extra 30-some pounds of fuel PLUS whatever the tank weighs just hanging off the back of my bike, not to mention the huge amount of gear I already throw over the rear seat and bungee on top of that. So I was thinking, would it be beneficial for me to lower my triple clamps through the forks a centimeter or two? Has anyone done that? Is it at all detrimental to the handling of the bike? It seems like, without the tank and gear, it should at least sharpen the handling. With the tank and gear, shouldn't it just balance things out? Any thoughts?

I should probably mention that I'm riding a full height street moto, and that the preload is pretty much maxed out already since I'm a big guy (250+ lbs).

Fit the tank and keep it full up. There are lots of guys here who want to find ways to get their baggi to wheelie, I think you may have found a way to achieve this and have the benefit of greater range

That's easy as pie! Just dab the rear brake and throw your weight forward while kicking down on the pegs, then throw your weight WAAAYYY back and clutch it up. That should pop the front up as high as you're willing to go!

Course, being a lard-ass always helps when it comes to throwing your weight around. Perhaps everyone here just needs to gain a lot of weight!
