Is 660 Yamaha a Rotax Engine?

A fellow familiar with MZ bikes is interested in my Tour and says the Yamaha 660 is a Rotax engine. I don't believe it is. Any definitive information to settle this question? My bike is a 2002 Skorpion Tour and watercooled.

Jim.

The air-cooled Rotax was used in the Skorpion prototype but the Yam motor was the one that made it through to production. So, unless your;s is air-cooled, you have a Yamaha engine (with an impeccable pedigree too)

There's a potted history here (in Dutch ...sorry :-) ) http://muz.monoconnection.nl/portal/index.php?page=Een_beetje_history

Hope this helps.

Thanks Linegeist,

just as I thought, Rotax are all air cooled and my 2002 Tour has the water cooled Yamaha. Nice island, I checked it out a few days ago online.

this engine has been the king of flattrack racing for about 25years till the AMA changed the rules to get rid of it
