MZ/MuZ Riders

Revill here, from Austin

My Skorpion that I picked up in Anchorage last May is not happy in Texas. Seems the fan switch doesn't work. That wasn't much of an issue in Alaska, but Texas is different. And there doesn't seem to be a MZ dealer in Austin anymore.

Am I behind the times? There doesn't seem to be an MZ dealer anywhere, as far as I can tell. Where does one buy parts these days? Is there an internet source?

Hey there Revill. Welcome.

There are still a few former MZ dealers here in the US that can order parts, when needed. I bought my Baghira at SF Moto in San Francisco, and they're still a reliable source for parts (well, as long as parts remain available at all, that is).

On this one, though, I don't think you'll need to go that far for the part. Although I don't know exactly what the part number is, I understand that the fan switch is somewhat universal, and you can probably pick one up at your local auto parts store, once you find the car model that uses the same one.

One of our European friends mentioned Opal as bing one of the cars that had the same switch, but they're about as easy to find parts for in the US as MZ.

Maybe someone has tracked down a car model that has the right switch. Otherwise, you might just take yours in to your local parts counter and see if they'll help you match it.

I know they're not that near to Austin, but maybe they know of a former MZ dealer closer to you who's still willing to order parts.

I think if you get the temp and thread that you need it is or can be a common part. Great pictures and report !

I'm not having a lot of luck with auto parts stores. The kind where the guy behind the counter came equipped with a brain doesn't exist anymore, at least I can't find one. These days the brains are in the computer terminals, and they start with a make, model and year. Asking for a thermoswitch that switches at 85 degrees C, is 10mm wide and 1 mm long gets me a repeated "What make and model is this for"?

MPH Motorcycles replied "I can't help you". At least they replied.

I'm glad you enjoyed my postings about the Alaska ride. I guess it's about time for another chapter, isn't it?
