baghira fuel leak sorted

Postby dozzyd » Thu Sep 25, 2008 8:46 am

Took a look at the drain screw Rodge and your right, it is made of soft metal and refused to budge. Not wanting to strip it I was about to set about removing the carb to investigate what was more than likely a stuck float, maybe a bit of grit, when reckoned if i turned the fuel off and started the bike this would empty the float chamber of fuel and hence move the float. It did , bingo ! It's now not leaking but i'm under no illusion the problem could return, but it's better than having to strip it all down!
Thanks for the input.

I don't think you should blame the poor drain screw.

Because I guess you have used bits, normal short bits, to unscrew it. But if you look close, you will see that the sides of the holder of the bit, touches the carb-housing. And this will put the bit slightly of center of the screw, which makes it doomed to slip, and the grinding of the head of the screw beguins.
(I have spoiled two drain screws before I understod this.)

Get yourself longerbits, 50 mm, or make way so you can use a proper screwdriver, and you will be surprised how easy it is to unscrew the drain screw.
