U.S MZ Dealers

Hi all....I'm new here and I was curious about any U.S. based MZ dealers. I've searched already but didn't find anything recent. Anyways I have a 2002 Baghira 660 SM and I would like to get replacement plastics. Does anyone know of a stateside dealer?

I've checked with Grahams in the UK and the shipping is really high

Any help would be appreciated....thanks

I probably should have added this also but are there any aftermarket plastics that wil mount up to the baghira?

MZ pulled out of the US a few years ago. However, SF Moto (in San Francisco) can still get parts, including plastics. They wait to place an order until they have a fairly large order due to the shipping costs. There's a thread here somewhere that lists interchangeable parts with other bikes (brake rotors, etc.), but I don't believe plastics are one of them (which could be because nobody's been motivated enough to compare plastics with other manufacturers). KTM's share a lot of the same basic parts, so it's possible something from the same year bike could work, but I haven't checked into it...

Also, and you may have already done this, but just post up in the "wanted" section what you're looking for...

I emailed SF Moto the other day asking about a seat and other bodywork parts for a Baghira and was told that if they didn't have it in stock, they couldn't order it anymore and I should try Grahams.

That's really unfortunate because shipping is going to cost 80.00GBP which is roughly $128.84 U.S.D. at todays exchange rate which is why I was hoping for someone stateside. That's definately a tough pill to swallow when the total plastic + shipping was over $500.00 U.S.D.

Sure, a body shop can fill and paint your scratches, but I'd wait until you have LOTS of scratches--unless you're entering it in a beauty contest, the cost of filling a scratch, prepping and painting to match is going to cost as much as a totally new set of plastics from Germany.

Try finding a good automotive touch-up jar of paint (the kind that comes with an inverted paint brush in the lid) to match your bike--you can get pretty close to the MZ colors, unless you have a Yellow Baggy--I don't know of too many cars that came in that color. Red, Black and Silver should be pretty easy, though.

I bought a rough, rolling chassis Baggy a few months ago and have re-painted all the plastics with rattle-can spray paint. It came out OK for my purposes. Got a couple runs and some inconsistent spray in a couple areas, but I ride my bike hard and scratches are part of the territory, so I don't really care. So, now I have my "daily" plastics in silver-sparkle, and my original RED plastics are wrapped up and put away for safe keeping...

the plastics that came with mine aren't in the best shape. Mechanically it's great but the cosmetics not so much. I really need a new rear fender and the seat could use a new cover. I could probably rattle can it but haven't given it much thought. I probably need to call Bikeworx again since it's been a few days

Rear fender you might have some luck with standard Acerbis, etc. Check Motostrano's website under SuperMoto plastics and see what you find. Side panels would be a little harder to fit, but front and rear fenders are usually pretty do-able (I've replaced my front fender with an Acerbis and UFO version in the past with no problems).

I think I used Rustoleum on the plastics--they have a new line of "professional" paints with a trigger-style spray button. Check out your local hardware store (OSH is where I found them here on the West coast) if you go the rattle-can route. Sounds like if your plastics are rough already, perhaps a home-job is the cheapest and easiest way to go...

I'll try to remember to take some pics of my spray-job and post 'em up here this weekend.

Do you all know if Husqvarna replacement plastic by UFO for models 125/250/450/510/610 2005 and up would fit the Baghira?

It looks like the Acerbis rear fender will mount up. I'm checking at Cycle Gear tomorrow to see if they have it in stock. I plan on replacing all the plastic but hopefully at a cheaper cost and will post all my findings here. The only plastic it looks like I may have to go through Grahams for is the Headlight cowl and the Left / Right front plastics

if you end up using Grahams, it was quick and easy to order from them. They will e-mail you a paypal account and how much money to send to it and ship it right away. I ordered spokes from them over the summer and had them in less than a week.

I talked to Tony and Mike a couple of weeks ago and confirmed that they can't order anything from MZ going forward. HOWEVER, they do have a few parts still in stock, like brake and clutch levers, hoses, etc. You might want to give them a call to find out what they have remaining, and stock up on things you know you might need. I picked up an extra lever from them, as I cut and polished mine to fit under my handguards, so I wanted a stock replacement on hand if I go w/out the handguards someday. Sorry, but I've got dibs on their last carb main jet. Going to pick it up as soon as I can get up to the city.

I was going to pick up a radiator hose that they have in stock, as I know mine will fail eventually (new header melted it a bit before I could insulate it), but they wanted $150 for the part (Yikes!!!). Looks like I'll be figuring out another solution to that problem, when it arises.

BTW, I think this is the way it's going to be for now and possibly forever (MZ factory won't ship parts to U.S. former MZ dealers). Someone mentioned (perhaps on the other MZ list) that European manufacturers who shut down production are required by law to continue selling spares in Europe for some period of time (if I remember correctly this person said it was something like 2 or 3 years) after production ceases. If that's true, and no one rescues the company and resumes production, it seems that the factory would just keep all the parts they can in Europe to fulfill that requirement.

I guess that means we have to go through Grahams or another UK dealer if we can't find something remaining in stock here.
