Postby wayne » Fri Nov 14, 2008 12:10 pm

hi im new to mz's and have just got a baghira 2004 model and its great.only problem is the battery dont hold its charge i thought it could be the regulator/rectifier.i had this issue on my old honda but the honda would cut out while i was riding but the baggy doesnt.if it is the regulator what would u guys recommend as a replacment. any advice would be greatly appriciated

i have replaced the fuses so its not them.i did notice a little corossion on negative wire going to the battery.
the battery is a ct12b4 and its a month old surely cant be that... can it?

hi wayne and welcome to the forum
I agree it maybe your battery that has died as they are very small and if you read other posts on this matter you will find lots of good info on how to solve this problem
if it is the rec/regulator I found out after a bit of cross refrencing, that a kawi er 5 component fits after you cut the locking lugs off the block connector. To check for a faulty one fully charge the battery then start the bike and put a multi meter set on dc volts across the terminals it should read around 14.5 volts with the lights on when you rev it, if it goes well above that then it's probably the rec/reg , if it struggles to go over 12 then it could be the alternator which means splitting the block connector that exits the left crankcase, but you can download a manual for the yam szr/xtz 660(same engine) from the forums and it will give you all the info you need

Good luck.......Hutchy

Hi,
I had the same problem recently with the battery on my Baggy and discovered that the battery was dry, once i topped it up (for the second time in a year) the battery was OK, at least for the time being.

Hope this helps,
Kenny.

my rt125 lost reg at 19 miles------
later had a problem with the connector plug on the voltage reg and had to remove it
and hard solder wires with shrink fit tube plug was toast and green crossion
after that no more problem
