K&N Air filters - any gotchas????

I really really want to fit a pair of these to my Tour, partly because I want to get rid of that horrible great plastic haemorrhoid that hangs beneath the seat, partly because I like the look and the sound, and partly becasue I want to mount my battery in a vibration-damped cage I've fabricated, right where the airbox currently sits - out of the way of mud and gunge.

I've tried do a lookup for any issues surrounding this, on this forum - unfortunately, for some reason, the search engine rejects the term "K&N". :? The alternative is to trawl through several million posts with the word "Filter" in 'em......

So, I throw myself on the mercy of the membership ..... with 2 teensy-weensy questions. :smt007

1. Does anybody know of any good reason why I can't fit a pair of these filters? (Bear in mind I'm an old geezer who rarely exceeds 70mph these days, hasn't been anywhere near the redline zone in years (or is that the red-light zone ....??) and is unlikely to hole a piston)
2. What are the 2 carb throat diameters that I need to specify please? I know they are 2 different sizes, I just don't know what they are.....

Thanks in advance and all that! :smt006

These parts are readily available for the yamaha raptor, sold here in the USA; it shouldn't[take much research to match up the right part (take a quick look at ebay USA). Seems it might take a bit of adjustment, and there will surely be an expert opinion resonding any time soon; if you can fabricate that battery box... Good luck.

Hi!

I've already made the battery box out of stainless strip ..... that was the easy part....

I just don't want to have to ponce about with rejetting the carbs and all the associated buggeration factors. I'm rather relying on the fact that the airbox on the Skorpion Tour is fairly agriculutural to allow me the flex to futz with its guts.

I don't ride hard - having spent almost a year rebuilding the old lady, I'm not about to abuse her - and anyway, I'm nearly 60 years old. If I ride any faster than the pace of a zimmer frame, I'm liable to fall off .................... right? :-) :-) :-D
