Ethanol anyone...?

Postby mishko » Mon Mar 16, 2009 9:37 am

Hello all. Here in south Florida where I live, it seems that Gas stations offering gasoline without the 10% Ethanol mix are fast disappearing. From your experience are there any adverse effects on the plastic gas tanks on the skorpions?, I'm sure it won't have any effects on engine performance, I have read bits and pieces here and there that some had their gas tanks all but destroyed after the plastic material got soft and distorted from the Ethanol content. :smt006

Ethanol will degrade the performance a little bit......it also has been know to get a bit gummy so it is important
to keep the carbs clean!!i know that if it sits too long it gums things up...even new injected motors at dealers
drain the tanks if thet sit over three weeks,.,at least here in Maryland

I'm not sure I buy the plastic tank argument. My Baggi of course has an Acerbis plastic tank and it shows know affect from ethanol blends, which you correctly point out are hard to not buy anymore. Of course there are different types of plastic, but both of my newer Ford vehicles have plastic tanks on them too with zero adverse affects. I would assume any plastic fuel tank capable of containing gasoline is more than fit for ethanol.

I think you'll find that the tanks used on the MuZ bikes aren't reactive with methanol.

Thank you all for your replies, I feel a little less trepeditious approaching tomorrow's gas station. :|

If the mix is only 10% ethanol there should be no noticeable or adverse effect at all on engine performance or materials.

As far as I know many European contries has been adding app 5% ethanol to all gas for decades.
