Dave 's Skorpion Traveller NOTES

Postby DAVID THOMPSON » Fri Jun 26, 2009 11:14 pm

hello from Dave Thompson
book mark this one for the care and feeding of a Skorpion Traveller
I will some day make this post into a pdf file
1 idle speed mine seems to do nice about 1400 1500 rpm/udm
past owner had it running so slow it would not stay running
adjustment knob for some one with big hands it a pain
from left side of motor its pointed down a round knob on side of carb
i had to use an ice pick it was where i could not get any tool on it
used a ice pick to turn it far enough to get it to stay running
some think this thing should idle real slow no way
any thing less than 1200 is not good 1300 1400 is better
this is a modern single and slow idle is not where it works good
2 fuel shut off learn its position for on off and reserve
IF BIKE DIES AND NEEDS FUEL VALVE TURNED STOP OFF ROAD OUT OF TRAFFIC AND DO IT------
THIS ONE IS HARD TO WORK and trying it from seated will wreck you

3 handle bars i found out why bike was low miles 5825 and a 1997 the clip on bars made it almost unrideable
will post details of my fix on the bars soon
4 clutch cable adjustment ---too little free play can cause shifting problems
also the shifter and its linkage may need some spray lube ...
mine was shifting poorly and when i got the free play a little bit more and lubed the link and shifter
things work much better edit took foot peg off and used never seize on the lever pivot 6/12/09---
BILL J says put a xt shifter on it i like that except it changes shift pattern and i ride 4 different bikes
and i like things the same on the controls so i am thinking about the traffic not this thing shifts backwards---
if you ever drive a bike in my town you will understand the word insane does not properly describe car drivers here!!!
5 the air box had been removed by a past owner i replaced it with the original and now it is quiet and runs much better..
that was a lot of work ----for a filter i cut the paper out of the original plastic filter frame and installed a piece of FOAM
by a company called UNI seem to work good
6 replaced turn signals on rear with set from KTM DUKE about 2001/02 model
the ori had been replaced with a polished non dot set .they were having problems and one was broke--
the fellow inspecting the bike in June said make them go away before next inspection
the ones from the DUKE look better ....more like "i belong on this bike"

all for now dave sat June 27/09 edit add items 5 & 6 plus pictures 6/13/09

just to add picture of home made add on wind screen

AS IN LIGHT TRUCK

out for a ride .. stopped at a ham radio friends house he had a free antenna on the shed roof...
but it was too far to go back with the truck
turns out the thing is for usa channel 12 TV 204 to 210 mhz and i need one for the station at clarksburg wv wboy-tv
and it may work on the one at Huntington wv on channel 13 210 to 216 mhz
it was a piece of work 110 inches long and made in the 1960's by blonder-tongue
