Recon/Replacement Skorpion Starter motor

Hi,
Can anyone suggest which motorcycles use the same starter motor as the skorpion (Mitsuba SM-13)? Are there any motor reconditioners out there where I can buy a refurbished unit? Are there any peculiarities I should look for when trying to track down a replacement off another bike (non Skorpion)

Thanks.

David.

Any Yamaha 660cc 5-valve engine is a suitable donor for the starter, i.e. Yamaha SZR or XTZ 660 or MuZ/MZ Tour/Traveler/Baghira/Black Panter etc.

You can find al lot of starters on e-bay (http://www.ebay.de seems to be the best place search for "anlasser" in German) or at the breakers.

Just be sure that you get one that fits, there are CW and CCW versions out there as well as 9 and 10 tooth sprockets with quite an assortment of various interface adaptations for diffrent models and makes.

Hi,
So is the Skorpion starter CW or CCW in rotation? How many teeth does the sprocket have? I might be able to get a recon unit so I need the info.
Thanks.

David.

Hi,
Can the oil pipe behind the starter motor be removed safely without any other work needed. I'm assuming that oil can't be drained as the engine is a dry sump type. The pipe is blocking the removal of the motor by sliding it backwards.
Thanks.

David.

assuming you mean the black steel pipe (feed to 5th gear) on the right, yes, you can simply take it off.

This is the pipe

Is it safe to remove the pipe behind the starter?

Thanks
