'01 skorpion taillight issues?

Postby spenceroma » Sun May 02, 2010 8:20 am

so this is my first post because i have had a 2001 skorpion for the last 5 years without any issues (any real difficult ones anyway)

But the one thing that keeps reoccurring is a taillight issue. one problem i found was the contact points on the back of the bulbs get worn down from vibration so that they stop working and i find myself at night riding home w/ no taillight/brakelight. but the other issue Is that i have had to bend the prongs of the contacts so they exert enough pressure on the bulb. Its a pretty junky system and i would like to try and find another solution and retrofit some other setup in its place.

has anyone done this/ have any good suggestions/ or have a new taillight assembly they want to sell me, or know where i could find a new assembly?

thanks

I just fitted one of these to my 2003 Traveller today.

Straight bolt in replacement. Only had to fit new bullet connectors to match the bike connectors. 10 minute job and well worthwhile. I've had the same unit, except a clear lens, on my other traveller for 2 years without problem. First change I made after the lights failed on the ride home from picking it up for the same problem you have.

Yes it has a clear section of lens and extra LEDs that point down to light up the number plate.

one of my favorite tricks is to get the tail lamp bulbs from a car from the 1960's/1970's
that is going to the scrap yard and recycle them
the bulbs were well made and real solder was used so they do not wear down as bad as the new ones
and they do not blow out as often from the vibes

One thhing wasn't mentioned as I see it...is your Skorpion a Sport or a Tour?
The light for a Ducati Monster is for the Tour...I found a taillight for a Skorp Sport on ebay uk...
Also some use the Lucas style for the Sport, which is available and made by EMGO..
