MZ/MuZ Riders

ok, I've been lurking here for a few years...I finally found my baggie...2001 black with only 2,500 miles...bike is as new with the exception of three minor issues. first, I need a new brake lever, its cracked and needs to be replaced...second, rear tail light is cracked...lastly, on the right side of the engine case where the MZ logo is cast into the metal its scraped badly...when the bike was being transported to me, it wasn't padded properly and rubbed up against the side of the truck.

Other than that, bike is mint...purchased from the original owner...he just put tires on it due to dry rot...lol
any guidance would be appreciated...I'm in Connecticut...so if anyone knows someone that can work on these in the area, please let me know...

my own experience wth the damages you describe is that the bike went down. I've done this more often than I care to count and all of my sidecovers are scraped, both sides. Unless it is mechanically damaged - cracker or ground thru, there is ltle point in searching for a pristine replacement. They are expensive and those with the MZ logo getting rarer.
Brake levers break when stressed by ground contact. Unlike heavy heavy scratching, just tipping over could cause this.
ASFAIK there is no ready replacement to fit the Grimeca pump. The terrible habit of dealers in general to list items by bike make and model and not by the item itself doesn't help at all in finding a possible replacement by simply comparing the parts themselves. I'd replace the Grimeca (junk anyway) pump with a Brembo (e.g. from a KTM or Ducati) or a Nissen. Either should be easy enuf the get off ebay and replacements, original as well as aftermarket, are plentiful.

Bill, when I quizzed the person I purchased the bike from regarding the damage, I was told that it was knocked over in the driveway...it appears that that is indeed the case as the only damamge to the entire bike is the brake lever and scratched side cover...the plastic is all original with no damage or scratches.
The taillight was cracked during shipping as I found pieces in the truck.

I should be able to source a brake lever pretty easily. The scrapped sidecover is more annoying than anything. Over the winter, I may just sand it smooth and repaint/powder coat it.

I'll post photos when I can...either way a hell of a bike...

I have some side covers hate to part with them but would for the right price nothing unreasonable -- which side cover is it brake side or gear
