Skorpion Battery Drains Away

Postby Old Dog » Wed Oct 19, 2011 10:17 am

Hi,
the battery on my tour is consistently flat if the bike is left unridden for a week. It was also short of water this time. I am wondering if one of the diodes in the reg/rec is on the blink. Anyone able to tell me the drill for checking the reg/rec please?
All the best

you apparently have a parasitic draw somewhere. charge the battery, leave disconnected, see if it drains...like a bad cell..
testing the regulator ...start it and rev to about 3k,should be around 14vdc and stay there,,,any lights on? I once left it in park position
(just before registration inspection) and it drained it.......

turn off every thing and take loose the plus wire from the battery
and check from battery plus to plus wire for current flow
194 side marker bulb works good or volt meter in the amp meter setting

my last little low current battery drainer was a bad front brake lamp switch
on a coworkers Honda
we had fun finding that......older bike and some one had
wired the brakes hot wire direct to the battery
i happened to put on the front brake
with the key off and found they were powered up 24/7 with the key off
it was flowing just a tiny bit of current
when not needed ..enough to drain battery but not make lamp glow....
