two-up riding on a scorpion?

I am a 500 rider and these are definitely not for passengers with a large rider like me. I wanted to ask if someone knows the "gross weight" spec for the scorpion and what kind of experience/opinions are there about passengers on this bike. Thanks!

Well I've never had a problem with carrying a passenger on my Traveller, 15.5 & 12 stone respectively,
the seat is step shaped for rider and passenger, so you don't encroach on the passenger area,
You will find the 660 to have far more torque than the 500, this makes for easy load lugging.

DAVID THOMPSON should be along shortly, he will give you the definitive answer, as he has both.

Total Permitted Weight (400kg or 880lb)

Tour/Traveller work fine for two grownups.
I would not want subject anyone, not even a kid to the back seat of a Sport for more than a very few miles.

have to pass on this one the wife had a back operation in 2003 and has only been behind me in a car since
she has enough metal parts in her back to build a small moped
and
she does not let me ride pretty red heads on my bike

if i was doing double the bike i would use would be a r75/6 bmw or a k75 bmw
the mz bikes are nice. but i find the ride to be a bit harsh to have some one on the back that is not used
to riding .. they would get tired very quickly

I have ridden two-up some on my Baghira too, honestly wasn't near as bad as I would have thought, there really is plenty of power to handle it.

I weigh 300lbs and my Skorpion hauls the groceries just fine. I wouldn't expect to do any passing while going up steep grades at highway speed, but anything shy of that should not be a problem for a Traveler with two average sized adults on board.

Say it ain't so! I just noticed where you live Nozz. I'm in Lakeway. :lol: We should get together some time and let me know if you need any plastics for a Traveler. I'm not using the fairings or side panels on mine anymore. I also have the headlight assembly and instrument cluster.

Good to know! I like to go for some day trips when time and weather permit so let's keep in touch about it. I don't know that I'll pursue the 660 but who knows! I actually have another 500 project that I need to put back together... I've got three generations of women in my house all listing out things they need me to do and working on/riding motorcycles is usually not the top of their list... After I posted, I realized I could have looked at the plate on my next door neighbor's scorpion. Would love to get together for a ride to Luckenbach or just around the area. If you feel like coming out to J-town, we can ride out and do the "cow creek loop" and come back in through Liberty Hill/Leander/Nameless... Thanks for the reply. Look forward to meeting you.

I wanted to see if you had an opinion about a shop that I found here in Austin or maybe a recommendation for a garage that you like. While surfing for someone to help me with some custom work on my Skorpion, I found a shop called Horsepower Farm. They are in the old Vespa shop on S. Lamar and in an email response claimed to consider themselves the unofficial home for MuZ in Austin. Do you have any experience with them or have a garage you know of that offers complete, everything under the sun, services? I will need things like a custom made header, rear sub frame work and brackets for battery and electronics relocation, as well as some engine work. I guess the engine work can be done by someone else that I know but it would be nice to have one shop that does it all.

The traveller took two of us on a camping trip by ferry to Spain then up through France and home across the channel. No problem. Mind you, many years before we did something similar on a 150 so I expected a 660 to cope. Skorpion seat is a decent one so no comfort problems over long days in the saddle.

This was a few years ago, but we still have the occasional two up ride on the bike.

I find with my tour that if I put have an adult pillion the front gets very light and touchy, also the pillions feet can interfere with your heel if you have your footrests set back

Hi Old Dog,

I think you may have a soft rear suspension setting, if the front end is feeling light when carrying a passenger, my Traveller though fitted with a Hagon rear shock, has no problem even when loaded with a passenger and full panniers.

I took a number of trips to France two-up with my late wife on my Traveller with no problems at all. Perfectly comfortable for two average sized people. A mixture of riding - 80-85 mph cruising on French autoroutes (speed limit is 130 km/h, 83 mph), lots of tight, winding roads in the Pyrenees and Massif Central, and general back roads riding. Bike was perfectly suited for all of it. My Traveller was completely standard (even gearing) except for 40 litres panniers and topbox, and I didn't find the standard rear shock too bad. I did later change it for an Ohlins, which was MUCH better, though.
Longest day we did was about 550 miles (880 km), a very wet ride from the South of England to our home in Central Scotland. Although the trip was very boring, the bike remained comfortable enough for us not to want to stop too often.

Well I have to say that my Hagon wasn't good straight out the box, it took a lot of messing around with to get it to feel right,
it was like riding a pogo stick, very bouncy, my thinking is that it has a heavier spring, it took a long time to get it to were it is now, too many and very fine adjustments to the spring, and damping.

It really needs one click adjustments like on other dampers, and with a base setting for each bike.
