grrr grrrr....

went to get my supermoto out yesterday to find that the battery was flat and needed charging.. anyway as the bike was up my garage and garage is a bit damp.. i thought be good time to get the battery off and give it a good clean top up the water and charge it in my shed... as its nice and dry in there...

anyway go to put it back on today.. in my dark garage... did move it to where i have a flurescent light.. tried to start and no matter what i did would not start... anyeay after fafing about for 20 mins decide to take it outside as it is dry run it down the hill, and into my garden where my shed is and all my tools etc.. anyway connected up the charger as by now the battery was almost flat...

left it on for 20 mins on fast charge...

tried again no good... pondering what could be wrong as battery is on and all connected up...and seat is back on as i had to ride it.... any way decide to take the plug out.. and give it a clean as it was a bit grubby anyway... put it back in..and drained a bit of fuel out to maek sure there was fuel in the carbs.... plug back in trie starting but still no joy... plug back out plug is very sooty, but not wet... new plug put back in, and tried to see if could get a spark by holding against the engine case not a very bright spark but at least there was something..... anyway to cut a long story short... i traced back some suspect wiring by the headets off the ignition switch as this often plays up... all seems good.............. by now i was getting a bit curious... battery charged again.. success the bike started... get my helmet on all my gear as thought it may rain... bike was purring away lovely...

anyway get to pull off... splutter cough.. cuts out tried to restart.. did strat great but as soon as i put it in gear and go to pull off... engine coughs and cuts... revs fine when in neutral but not when in gear...

tried numerous times... to pull off just a big clunk and stop.... thought it may have been clutch plates stuck together but no... not that... by now getting a bit pissed off.... anyway gear all off push the bike back in to my garden time approx 3.30.. another hour before getting dark.... strat thinking about it .. and thought i know its the sidestand witch i had a similar problem in i.o.m. TT a few years ago.. and i shorted the wires temporarily and taped them up... this has been like this for about 2 years with no ill effect traced the wires all seems ok... what could it be... as soon as it starts.. if i put any lights on bike cuts...

recheck the battery connections...

guess what ????

i expect you all know...

now that you hooked it up backwards
all those reverse current diodes can be found at radio shackk
there 3amp at 50 volts
good luck
dave :smt040

i used to sell CB RADIOS back in the mid to late 1970's
we always soldered in a diode on new and used radios
so the in line fuse blew out when they got hooked up backwards

Nope.... big brown wire on battery put on. But the mass of small brown wires left off.... what a dickhead....

Surprised the bike started but it did... must have been the stator keeping the motor running... and soon as it had gas to move...
maybe the stator not givi.g enougb power. But was a weird one

I had a similar issue when I put a multimeter across battery to check if rectifier was charging and thought I had a problem and discovered one of the brown wires wasn't connected, live and learn.

wires are done the cider is flowing well eggy... air filter is put back in to a cavity, and fits real tidy like. also tightened up my sloppy mirror... altogether a very eventful few days... really need to sort out the sloppy gear change though.. iss doing my swede rite in... i think i may take the lever off and drill and bolt it up tight and do away with the springer action as it seems to make it real sloppy...

wot is yer opinions on the gear lever i need some top concrete advice on this....

or should i ditch the whole thing and go for a different setup without the linkage...
