Why is Megacycle so much better than Hot Cams?

Just wondering why Megacycle is so damn proud of their work. Even if I send them my cam, they still charge almost $300 to weld and grind it. Why is Hot Cam not up to the job according to some people? Is it longevity? Thanks

Thinking more about the Megacycle X4 after reading that you can get rid of the auto decomp mechanism and still run a high compression big bore set up without the worry of not being able to turn over the engine without a manual decomp installed. Evidently, if you run the Hotcam Stage 2 with no compression release, it builds a lot more pressure in the cylinder and the tighter engines just won't turn over. That makes the X4 more attractive but I'd still like to hear from the old pros about any draw backs to running the X4. I don't mind if I lose a little throttle control as long as it makes power and doesn't require that I drill a hole in my combustion chamber for a manual decomp.

Ya know,it may be worth your while to contact Slipstream Tuning in UK or Tunebike in Germany....seeing as how Bill Jurgenson is no longer posting to this group...

I'm definitely partial to Megacycle, but my Skorp has a Hotcams stage 1 cam that i essentially got for free. It looks good enough. I may be incorrect, but my feeling is that the Megacycle product is made by a company that thinks motorcycles, and the Hotcam is made by a company that thinks about cams, and sales.
