MZ/MuZ Riders

So I've just got a Baghira which is still under warranty from the garage. In 1st to 3rd gear it pulls nicely, But in 4th gear it doesn't seem to want to hit the limiter. For a 660 I figure up to 80-90 it should pull like a beast in 4th and 5th. Not sure if I've just got used to it and it was always like that or maybe there's a slight issue?

Also has a wee flat spot on occasion, pops a wee bit out the exhaust but I think this is normal on a thumper?
Also on start up with the choke open it seems to take a wee minute to get up to full idle speed if you get me.

Any advise much appreciated.

Let us know some details about the bike (pictures are well received!!), exhaust ie is it the original or and after market (is it straight through if it is)

On the left side of the bike on the underneath of the carb you can get to the mixture screw, how many turns out from fully screwed in is this set to. (dont touch if youre not comfortable doing so)

Have you popped out the spark plug to see whats its colour is like (pics are good!)

Anyway theres no short answer.

If you have a read around about the carb on here theres some mods to do to it to get the most out of it from the original settings.

hi maty , I would suggest you have a look on youtube ,,there are plenty of baggy and Yamaha 660 videos there , you will be able to see and hear what's going on to others so as to compare your own , my fourth gear will take me up to the rev limiter easily enough and fifth gear is like a motorway gear, just for plodding along. But don't worry , you in good hands here , If there's anything these people don't know it probably isn't worth knowing. I suspect a little carb cleaning and check the air screw position , here you'll see what part of the carb is in use in relation to the throttle position, and the other photo is where these parts are located ,

Hi, thanks for the info and pics. Yeah I suppose cleaning the carbs out is the best starting point. I think the garage I bought it at may tune it up a bit for me gratis so will maybe put it back in for a couple of days.

What about exhaust popping/bubbling noise? It does it mega when my main tank has run dry and needs switched to the reserve.

Not normal, take it back check the tank breather n fuel filter

The stock fuel petcock is crap too. Replace it immediately if you are doing full throttle runs longer than 6 or 7 seconds. That's about how long it takes to drain the bowl before the petcock can't keep up anymore. At least that's true for the Skorpion. Not sure about the Baggy!!!

when my tank runs onto reserve it will pop and bang until the tap is turned to reserve,unless i turn it at the first stumble of the engine note in which case no popping at all
if your not using the bike for a few days/weeks i find it will be easier to start if you turn fuel off and run the bike till it dies,think the fresh fuel in the carb helps with the start up if left for a while
