Removing those gas tank bolts

...just working on my new-to me bone stock Skorpion with 1,500 miles on it (:-)) and I had the classic spinning gas tank bolts. On a whim I popped a 10mm socket on my 1/2" drive impact wrench and gave them a spin....they unscrewed off without a problem. I think the impact vibration helped them free up, but all I really know is they weren't coming off w/out the wrench and they popped off like nothing with it.

Had one come out with no issue, the other would not come out at all. Resorted to removing the tank with the tank mounting strap still attached. Fiddly. But got the job done. What are there, swaged inserts n the tank that have come loose?

yes - the inserts spin. there was discussion (Bill out of Germany) several years ago about drilling in small set screws to keep them from spinning. Not sure if anyone else tried.

Curious.... aren't those spinning gas tank bolts a great source for gas leakage?

No - there's plenty of material between the hole and the tank interior.
