off road wheels for Baghira

Hello

Did a search but with no luck!

I'm looking for some off road wheels for the Baggy streetmoto on ebay!
A difficult task at the best of times!

Does anyone have an idea of what other wheels might fit my Baggy (21", 17")
Does the compatable wheel depend on the disc and or the spindle?

I am guessing that a KTM wheel might do the job, but I don't want to buy anything until I have some kind of confirmation

well, I bought an early 90's KTM desert wheel, 18inch with a cush drive hub. bolts right in, I just need to figure out the brake rotor size, and sprocket size. they both line up, only needed to trim 1 spacer.

I have a 2003 ktm front, but the bearing ID is twice the baggy's. I think an early KTM front will bolt right in, then just have to find correct rotor. KTM's used the conventional 45mm marzocchi magnum fork until 97 or 98, so just keep your eyes peeled.

Acctually, I hadn't thought about using an 18" wheel - it might just work!

What about some of the other manufacturers out there? I know the brakes are also found on Aprillias and the Yamaha DT (rear)

Anyone have dimentions of the wheels to do a virtual comparision?

If I was going to adapt a different spoke rear wheel to my Baghira, I would investigate using a wheel with straight pull spokes. I have had spoke breakage problems with the stock Baghira wheels. Straight pull is stronger and easier to replace a spoke when it breaks. The Honda XR650L has straight pull spokes....

well, the rear hub is XT600, so you would think the XT wheel would fit. the stock XT wheels are steel, and the rear is 17 inch. I would go with the 18inch wheel, lots of tires avaialble!

Hi all

This idea has been looked at on previous threads. Basically the use of other Yamaha wheels has been looked at. All would appear easy until you come to fit XT wheels. Check tthinkhe bearing sizes first as I dont think Yamaha hubs use the same bearings, so either the hub would have to be modified, a different spindle/axle would have to be used or suitable spacers/bushings would have to be made.

Do you have any pictures of the KTM wheels? (closeup of the hub would be nice) Both me and Hoke intend to replace the original wheels with the KTM. The brake rotor size is not a problem, there is a company here in Sweden that uses laser to cut discs. There is no problem for them to cut a disc with KTM bolt pattern with different diameter. Price is aprox 50Euro each, that's cheaper then MZ-original.

sorry for the late reply guys, been really busy.

here you go. appears to bolt right in with only 1 spacer change. axle dimension is the same, offset to both sprocket and brake disk are real good.. 18 inch by 2.5 inch wheel. cush drive hub.

How about getting someone to lace a different rim onto your existing hub? PO did that on my Mastiff, changing from the Behr wheel to Akronts. I don't know how to do that, or how much it might cost, but it certainly can be done.

the real nice thing about those KTM wheels are they are staight pull spokes, and it only cost me $75.00 on ebay

I went for a 520 mile tour this weekend, entirely on the road. Found ANOTHER broke spoke in the rear wheel this morning. Again, it was one of the shorter side, inner spokes. This wheel was laced from scratch with new spokes by a professional in Texas.

If you want to change your 17" motard wheels for a 18 x 21 combo, don't waste your money on the stock Baghira wheels, get them ktm wheels like Pflat did.....

I have changed the "inner" MZ-spokes to ordinary "motorcrosswheelspokes". The guy who manufactured them, told me that the MZ-spokes probably broke because of the chroming. I got Zinked ones, but stainless is even better (he did not have them at stock).
I have not broken a spoke since i replaced them (been riding on road, dirtroads and endurotracks).
It only cost me 8-euro since I only replaced the innerspokes that keept on braking (grrrr no more MZ-spokes ). Off course i hade to loosen all spokes before replacing then bad ones.

At last the wheels seems ok for offroad use!
(But the MZ-rims is still crap -get KTM....)
