i'm trying to decide between two types of handguards,
http://www.ktmcycles.com/2004/handlebars.htm

First is 7th pic down in the left column "MX Handguards"

Second is 9th pic down in the same column "EXC Handguards" at almost twice the price.

This pair also seems more durable, but the MX looks like it woult fit the style of my SM125 better with its 'sharp look.'

i know i know, substance over style, but since i primarily ride city streets
is it really necessary for the guards to be that heavy duty? or would the MX suffice just fine?

thanks in advance

well, the main reason for hand guards on a motard is to give it something to slide on, and protect the levers and handlebar components. So yes, they should be pretty heavy duty. I have MSR guards, and they dont make my hands any warmer on the freeway. Maybe prevent some rain from hitting my gloves directly though. I do agree on the angular ones. esp on the 125. here's mine

those are made by Lockhart Phillips, they double tape in place. here's a pic of the rears. 2004 BMW 3 series side markers. I made a bracket to put them on a 45 deg. angle. thanks for the props!! :D

I would go with Acerbis product. They make 14 different hand gaurds. The one I would go with is the" Rally Dual sport handguards " which has the built in signals .

Also, if you really want to be different. I would add the Cyclops Headlight. The Led modular tail section. smaller and lighter. I would also put there Supermotard Front fender on

Personally for me, a good handguard is the one that holds when u fall.
Coz this thing WILL get scratched. It's just a matter of time.

Only my 0.5cents.....

the turn signals on the dual sport seem to be too close to the center,
doesnt look like they will be any more noticeable than the stock lights.
and if so, then theres hardly a reason to bother with them.

youre all right. i'm going to go for the ones that are more durable,

just weird that MX guards were even made, if they arent to use as a spoiler onto a real metal bar guards.
EXC it is :D

Motocross guys use them to protect their hands from rocks on rocky tracks, so they only need a deflector. Enduro guys use them for protection from trees on tight trails. supermoto guys use them when the bike slides down the asphalt. :D
