Having only just got my 301 on the road after buying it in early January this year, I must admit to bing quite pleased with how smooth it rides, and its general performance.

Just a few questions to the wise:

1. What top speed can I expect to see ?

2. Fuel consumption - yes I know it depends how you ride, but for general running around ?

3. I have set the timing statically, but as accurately as I can. If I really rev the nuts off it it tends to 4 stroke. Does this indicate that timing may be out, as I was expecting that the motor would probably rev right out rather that 4 stroke (I don't make a habbit of doing this by the way).

4. Cruising speed ? I reckon 65 - 70 Max.

have fun with the 301 but expect it to get into your pocket book for the gas ..
if you run it hard or do a lot of miles..

i had a yamaha YM1 305cc in 1966 it was nice but not very good on fuel use
even back then with 25 cents a gallon gas the fill up came way tooo soon
worked delivering office supplies made about $1.25 an hour
so the up grade in 1970 to a bmw r69s and its better MPG was nice

1973 and a 1964 chevy big V8 at 10 mpg cured me of liking BIG MOTORS
it was only driven when the weather was very BAD

I have a Saxon Tour 301 I get 44.5 to 47.5 MPG depending on how I ride it which is mostly like I stole it

I keep a record of all the fuel and mileage on my vehicles, Sad I know

It is a lovely bike with a little surge but I think that one day I'll get around to solving the issue. Unfortunately just too busy ATM.

The top speed is about 140 KPH. When I got the bike off my son, he had an aftermarket pipe fitted which I replaced with the original one and the bike goes better with the original pipe, top speed better and the noise is considerably reduced, and probably the MPG.
