What battery is best for my ETZ 250??

9a is fitted and just dies

box of new bits and i have a 5a

i understand some have diff batteries depending on model.

So which is best please?

I had a 5a in my one for a few years.
It manages fine

It sounds like you have current drain occurring, probably via the mechanical regulator (if fitted with one)...Very simple to Test....Just remove one wire Ideally the POSITIVE from the battery and insert an ammeter (multimeter set to high amps) Insert the test leads in series with battery....by that I mean connect one test wire to the removed wire and the other test lead to the battery terminal you have chosen.

With everything switched off you should see no current drain at all. You may wish to adjust the multi-meter sensitivity at this time to see if the there is any very low level drain...once again this should be virtually zero. If you do see a current flowing come back and tell us...it's not worth going on any more at this point.

A 5AH battery is easily sufficient, even a 1AH battery will start the bike and then the alternator will keep things charged.

Don't waste you money before testing you might not even need a new battery.

BY THE WAY....IF YOU ARE SAYING THE BIKE DIES AFTER YOU HAVE STARTED? then I would imagine you have a charging fault...Please be more informative with your question to aid speedy diagnosis...

No drain and charging ok

I have not ridden it much lately and have other bikes too

Twice it has cut out when on tickover at lights.

After a short ride of 6 mikes it was left standing in the rain (?) and the battery was totally flat would not bump.

i rang an MZ friend who lent me his battery to get home.
Battery charging to full voltage starts and runs and charges.

will see how it goes.
The box full of new spares i had are from a 251 hence the smaller battery and confusion.

Could be a glitch in the matrix or an old battery saying good bye

I have also had this. I tried my battery on two different etzs and it was the battery. Idled fine in the day but when I put lamps on the bike would misbehave at idle

i know it is fully charged but may not have any power and may be flat in the morning.

Once again a thread highlighting the advantage of an ignition that does not rely on a battery... Which I do not (yet) have on my MZ either.

Measure a Nice2day says, and indeed you don't need a high capacity battery, mine is quite small too. But a high capacity dead one is no good either - it needs to be able to deliver sufficient current for the ignition coil to work.

Sometimes geriatric batteries can reach a good voltage when charged (very quickly!), but are unable to give any suitable current. The battery should be able make a 60W halogen bulb shine brightly. So that's without the engine running.

Well battery has not died or lost power since last Friday.

I think I may have left ignition or parking lights on by mistake.

Been there.. Done that.. Not fun to try and find a way to get the battery charged when you leave work at 1am.. Now I am careful, and I look back at my bike whilst walking away.. Not for vanity reasons.. But to check for things like Lamps.
