ETZ251 rear ind/lamp bracket

Hi,

The rear light and indicators fit directly onto the top of the rear plastic square type mudguard and it is pretty wobbly.
Not sure if this was standard as the rear indicators are different from the front, can anyone tell me if this is a standard fitment?
I'll take a pic later but the front indicators ar standard, the angled type with rubber stalks and a small metal bracket.
I'd rather fit the lot to the rear of the frame.
Cheers

What year is that? That bracketry looks like it could be for the saxon type? Here's mine..

As you can see, I have a rack with the indicators mounted onto there instead, but otherwise they would be on the end of the shafts that the wires are coming from. This is standard 89-91 design. The later etz251's and saxons tended to have different bracketry for the fairing/different indicator units.. There is some inter-changability, for example you can inter-change etz 250 and 251 rear lamps. Indicator brackets too.

I'm guessing those rubber bits are not original (?) could potentially be removed and have the indicators more rigid with the frame..

My bike is a 1991 UK bike, it has the square clocks and a small headlight fairing.
It has a full plastic rear mudguard, the front mudguard is steel.
The rear mudguard is the same as the saxon type
I think these last of the line bikes used a mixture of what ever was available. Maybe impossible to tell exactly what mudguards it should have.
I would prefer a steel rear mudguard if available.
The bike came with a nice steel rack and top box, I removed both to make it easier to fit in my shed.

Cheers

Normally those mixed last of the line boxes, at least have some consistency.. the little fairing, the square clocks, will have these types of indicators front and rear:

Hence the bracketry too- that is supposed to hold up the rear hand bar, which is supported in a different way in earlier models. It triangulates the strength a bit, considering the lamp is on a plastic mudguard. (yuk!)

Looks like yours have maybe been replaced because the ones they came with were broken..

Here is the bike as I bought it.
I assumed all is original but not sure, the side stand is far too short to use.
Rear indicators different from the front type.
Should this 1991 have a steel rear mudguard?

Your rear indicators i believe have been replaced- they should be the same style as the front. The rear bracketry which is unused would otherwise hold secure the grab rail, which you don't have.

Thanks folks,

All helpful.
Maybe there was a rear grab handle but the bike come with a rack and top box so I guess any grab handle could have been removed to make way for the rack.
I have seen other 91 models with the indicators the same as the front. I have also seen late models that still had the round clocks.
I would prefer a steel mudguard so will try and source one or get a universal unit on ebay and mod that.
One benefit of that plastic mudguard is that it separates, I assume to make getting the rear wheel out easier.

What was the benefit in a smaller rear wheel?

Just found out exactly what model my MZ is,,,the exact same bike is on ebay uk right now listed as an MZ ETZ 251e Lux.
There is a good photo of the original brochure mentioning the lux and econo models.
So apart from someone fitting older model rear indicators, a new seat cover and a slightly longer silencer I now know the rest is as left the factory.
My bike even has the same rear rack which may have been fitted by the uk dealers?
I done a google check for MZ ETZ 251e Lux....nothing apart from that one bike on ebay.
Nothing special about the bike but at least I know the mudguards, headlight fairing, square instruments etc are all original. It looks like it maybe should have the lever guards as std too.
I'll try put a pic up later
:) :)
