I got given a decent seat for my Trophy at a club meet (Carrog camp actually) in 2022 (?). I never put it on because I felt alright with my original seat, despite the condition - but in October I had an operation on my back for cauda equina and I have noticed now that I am starting to ride more that specifically it seems on the Trophy - my back hurts...

So decided to put the new seat on and see if it makes a difference. It's firmer (and looks much better) so might actually provide some relief. I didn't bother transferring the strap for now. I have no friends that would want a ride anyway.

Well yes, that seat does look a lot better! But this new one too has the shape of being used in it, not sure if that matters?

I would guess the seat itself wouldn't change much in the seating position. But yes, a seat can make a lot of difference. For instance, the new aftermarket seat on my ET251 is way too soft, and that gets uncomfortable on longer stretches. Not only on the bum, but because you sink deeper into it, the angle in the hips changes too.

Yes such a strap is presumably for pillions to hold on to - but if that would work is quite another matter. Too tight, too weak, too close by... Anyway, see if this seat is better for the back.

The depression you see might be a combination of both design, and also the fact that I had the seat sitting ontop of a CX500 engine upside down. So the depression might/should hopefully level out. The seat base has no rust on it and additionally the seat is missing the aestetic aluminium trim around the base - which is apparently quite a rarity these days.

Agreed- and not necesarily a very long time riding (perhaps even as short as 10 minutes) does make the foam compress and the positioning of the body change a bit. Unlike the ETZs I don't feel like my knees are above my hips (even on the old seat) and has a more natural forward lean. But also the foam is now constricted in it's shape too because it won't squeeze out of the tears that are apparent in the old seat cover - and therefore the general shape should keep better whilst riding too.

I don't think i've ever had a pillion on the Trophy anyway.. Besides which one day I'll want to make a proper rack and affix a top box which gives pillions a better feeling of security anyway.

I was actually dreading removing the seat because of my already repaired/welded bolt receiver/clamp which had already broken it's weld once before, but it wasn't an issue.

Rusted seat base is exactly the problem of my original seat... Which I made higher & stiffer, it's a lot better. Maybe I'll go back to it. Once.
