ETZ 251 Battery light?

Hi All,

Does anyone know what the red battery light on the dash means?

It's on when the ignition is on, and when the engine is idling, but goes off when the engine is reving above about 2000rpm.

Does the light mean the battery is not charging at low revs? does that mean there is a problem with the stator, or is this normal?

Thanks for your help!

Steve.

sounds good
most old time systems kick in at about 1800 rpm/udm and 2500
bike needs good brushes and the place they run clean
and the bulb in that light needs to be the original type in the bike
from new
because in some older systems the bulb sets the charge rate
by being a series resistance in the voltage regulator circuit

also the biggest battery you can get in the battery holder
and if parked a lot a solar cell charger helps

in my area headlamp on any time bike is in use..required
on older bikes we solder a 20 watt Halogen bulb to a parking lamp base
and wire it as a daytime run lamp
so we don't run the thing down by drawing to much when its not dark
ran my 1963 BMW R50S that way since 1976

Over here in the UK we call this a charging light, basically when its lit there's a drain on the battery, when its off, there's enough power in the electrics to run all systems and charge the battery. As mentioned, fit as big a battery as you can.A YTX12bs sealed battery will fit in without the battery holder and tool tray, as the terminals are the popposite way round you will have to extend the earth (ground) wire. I also use a 5 oled led bulb in the parking light bulb holder in the headlight. Only a couple of watts, but a good deal of light. cheap enough from EBAY.
