I'm looking for a manual I can use for my newly accuired Saxon 251. The Clutch is very noisy when I pull the lever in. Any suggestions, downloads etc I'd be very grateful. Also best places to buy special tools clutch puller etc.

Many thanks,

Look at this page
http://www.mzriders.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3242 which gives a link to Haynes 251 Little book of lies
A copy of the German repair manual is obtainable from the MZ riders club http://www.mzridersclub.com/html/mz_regalia_shop.html for members and non members alike although I would always recommend any MZ rider in the UK to Join the MZ riders club
Also sign up for the yahoo group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mz_riders/ for quick advice

Oh and welcome!

It reads like it is just the clutch plates rattling in the basket, quite usual, unless its way too loud, then it could be either lack of gearbox hypoid ep90 oil, easy and cheap to check, Or that the plates have worn/are wearing notches into the basket , if it is that, then it will be an expensive repair as both the basket and plates will need replacing.

You sometimes get a noise from the tube that sticks out of the casing, due to vibration. It's unusual but easy to check and cheap to fix. While the bike is making clutch noise put your free hand or foot on the tube bit and if the tone of the noise changes then it is just sympathetic vibration. Adjusting the clutch cable should cure that.
If you have to pull the clutch I would recommend the expensive puller rather than the cheap one. I'm afraid I'm not sure where you'd get a puller.
Good luck!
Louis

Thanks for all the great suggestions. The noise sounds very much like a bearing noise to me, pull the clutching and grumbling rumbling noise, let it out and silent. I checked the oil and it is fine.

Ta,

Hi therealache,
Thanks for the welcome, I come from Bradford however I have lived in Kent since 1975, I still have family up there so come home pretty regular. My favorite brewer is Timothy Tailors :-)

A great site.

Thanks,

I wondered if you managed to sort out your grumbling, rumbling clutch? Was it the bearing in the end, or did you decide to just live with it?
I ask as I recently acquired the same model with the same noise.

Hi Gwiz,
Sorry I missd your post. I have decided to have the engine out early next year as it's jumping out of 3rd gear. I will find the dodgy bearing and see if I can get the 3rd gear mod done.

Ta,

I found that the rumbling clutch was the thinner thrust bearing in the clutch. New one fitted, no more noise. :D
Fitted new outer bearing too as it looked at me funny when I took the side casing off.
