MZ/MuZ Riders

Hi guys,

I've just aquired a '93 Saxon 251 tour. The Bing 84/30/110 carb is functioning ok but......some animal has had a go at it in the past and the body of it looks like it has been given a very hard time, now held together with loads of filler/plastic metal around where the choke plunger screws in. I suspect the threads are stripped or the body is cracked. Will a BVF 30 N 2 fit straight on with out too much problem, I can get a BVF new for 60euro whereas the Bing would be 110euro. Any thoughts will be welcome. Alternatively has anyone got a decent Bing they'd let me have for a sensible price?? I like the Bing as it is the same as my '96 Kanuni had and was never any trouble and simple to maintain and adjust.

I think the carb you need is the BVF 30N 2.5
Though you will probably also need it's matching inlet manifold.

The choke housing is easily cracked. Epoxy repairs have worked well on my one. You should find low and high prices for both the Bing and BVF carbs, depending on where they were made. The BVF is easier to work on which is perfectly fair as it is slightly less reliable due to leaky floats (in my experience). The Bing develops wear in the needle after about 30k miles. It is probably easier to stick with the one you have. I suspect that the choke cables are different.

Thanks for the advice chaps, I did a bit of digging on t'net due to some enforced downtime at work MZ-B have a replacement Bing, new, on its way for less than £60! It has a choke lever rather than a cable operation, but I can live with that and at least I'll be able to set the carb up to run a bit better than it does now. I got on really well for the 9 years that I ran my Kanuni 251, the Bing on there being no trouble at all. It was still behaving itself after about 40k miles. I was also pleased to see that M&P can still supply Michelin M45 tyres, which I found were really good on the Kanuni.

I could do with a new carb for my etz 301 saxon tour, can you tell me what I need please. I have looked at the MZ-B site but my grasp of things on there is not very good

BVF 30N 2.5 or a Bing 84/30/110,
The BVF is what the etz250 etz251 and etz301 were sold with for ages in the DDR

there are a few BVF's for sale on ebay atm...
New the bing will cost you nearly double what a BVF will
