sounds like you have been attacked by the green crud that gets
in the wireing harness plugs after a few years :(

MuZ '97 Skorpion Tour wiring diagram

Postby grussell » Sat Mar 31, 2007 5:40 am

I too am after a copy of a circuit diagram for this bike - the contents page of the owner's manual says it should be the last item in the manual, but it isn't, in any language. I've got a relay (the one bolted to the frame, forward, above and R of battery) that's fizzing and popping, flickering the N light, sending the rev counter to 10 grand, and the bike's misfiring horribly - won't take revs. I need to find out what the 5 wires through this relay do. Thanks, anyone who can help

This is the cut-off relay that cuts power to the ignition box when you switch the kill switch to 'stop', or if you engage a gear when the propstand is down. If it's fizzing and popping, it'll be interruptiong the power to the ignition box, hence the poor running. As the ignition box drives the rev counter, this will cause the erratic readings.
You could, as a test, connect the red/white wire to one of the red/black ones. This will bypass the relay and will supply power directly to the ignition box. Remember that this will also bypass the kill switch and the neutral switch/propstand circuit, so do at own risk.
This will be a fairly ordinary relay so could be replaced with any 12V automotive relay, ie one used for spotlights should work.
A wiring diagram for the Skorpion can be downloaded (in parts) from http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/MZO ... lectrical/ and the cut-off relay can be found on the page marked 'Skorpion ignition & start'.
Hope this is of some help.
Incidentally, I'm organising a 'Skorpion Servicing Masterclass' at my house (near Paisley) soon. There's going to be 6 Skorpion owners so far, let me know (off group) if you want to attend.
All the best,
Norman

Thanks, Norman and Bill; that's brilliant. Can I push my luck by asking: why should jiggling the Blue/black terminal (49a) on the indicator relay (I take it that's the indicator relay, bolted through the mudguard above the battery by a wee button head allen and wellnut) affect the fizzing in the cut-off relay. It appeared to restore normality to the system (for half a mile at least, then back to pop-bang).

Crackly relay was a sympton, not the problem, which was revealed when I unscrewed the fuseholder from the mudguard and the red main live lead fell off in a shower of green powder, having corroded completely off the terminal. For fixing this wekend.

green crud

Postby DAVID THOMPSON » Fri Apr 06, 2007 12:25 pm

"lead fell off in a shower of green powder,"
note my ref to green crud in other post above
this is getting to be a major problem with the MZ bikes as they age

but have seen it in other brands as well

so when checking things at service inspect the wireing so you dont come
to a stop in traffic and get rear ended by a tailgater

where i live more than one coat of wax on your rear number plate
gets you PUSHED instead of FOLLOWED

that why its called a panic stop

Now I can't get my blinkers to work... The left side works, but the right dose not, and it's not the relay. It will not click or anything???
