Postby bias » Thu Nov 22, 2007 5:23 pm

i have just joined this site

any help regarding your experiences with the BAGHIRA 660cc STREET SUPERMOTO

i currently own a 1999 r1

and fancy a change the reviews i have read seem ok regarding engine etc

the one i may be swapping with my r1 is a 2004 baghira

i know i will be sacrificing a lot of power from the r1

i have road a ktm duke 2 640 had fun on it right wheelie machine but loads a grunt

would i be impressed with the mz ?????????

any feedback on this would be much appreciated
If you were (or are) fortunate enough to own one and survived it, then congratulations - We might never see the like of that first R1 again.

Not unless your prepared to spend about £1700 on tuning the motor and adding some decent carbs. The Baggy, or Mastiff for that matter, are extremely well made bikes that, as a commuter, would last you practically forever. The motors are extremely reliable and rock solid, but in comparison to an R1 your miles off. The common thing to do with these bikes is to add some more horses and tune to release the immense hidden power that can be unleashed from the infamous XTZ 660 Yamaha motor that these bikes use. Parts are readily available and there are many tuning options. Reading through this forum you will find lots of options, i built a full-on custom version earlier this year(2007) and managed to unleash 75bhp and 53flbs of torque at the rear wheel, even an R1 would struggle to leave you off the line and would certainly be left for dust round the twisties. As you can pick-up MZ's for silly money because they are less desirable than the fashionable bikes, sweet for us MZ lovers, you can afford to throw some cash at it and have a proper sorted bike. I suppose you could do the same with any bike if you have the cash but you won't have the reliability of the XTZ motor that's a guarantee. Where the XTZ motor keeps going every KTM or Husky on the planet would have shot itself in the head and need a full-on transplant.

The MZ chassis is pretty solid, and a bit heavier, but it's tough and built to last, Baggy is 116mm ride height, Mastiff 110mm ride height but is also raked steeper than the Baggy so it feels like the bikes always leaning into the front end. They both have good quality WP rear shocks and Marzocchi front forks as standard. The Baggy forks come adjustable but the Mastiff is factory pre-set with no adjust.

TBH with you it would be a huge disappointment to you jumping aboard a standard MZ compared a tuned version. You can find more info on our website here:

They are very underated bikes, but that's easy for me to say!

If your looking for a bike you can "personalise" then this is a great machine, if you want something to jump on and rag around then look else-where. These bikes are heavy off-road and not the best option, if you want a green-lane, tarmac terrorist then look know further...you won't find much better!
