Its Loud.. and i mean LOUD

Postby mr john » Fri Feb 22, 2008 7:08 am

Hellooo...
im new round these parts. just got myself a baghira this week, its my first "proper" bike. its reet heavy is this bike, being new to this kind of weight i thought maybe my baggi wasnt all that well. Im coming round to it now though, just takes a little more effort than the lighter sm/dual sport bikes ive ridden.

anyway.. its got a micron slip on can.. its quite simply deafening. Thats not the real issue though, the main thing is that its not road legal. should i be worried? i mean is my insurance REALLY void? if so whats the options? anyone know of a cheap slip on i can get that might look and sound similar-ish to the micron?

many thanks people :smt068

Hi and welcome to the MZ owners club community! Your well recieved here...

Forget the insurance company that's not an issue as your exhaust is NOT extremely performance enhancing and insurance companies are becoming more aware of this as the years go by. The problem is the plod!!! They don't like mega loud cans at all and the way they check if they are legal is by sticking a stick down the end of it and seeing if is restricted.

Micron sell baffles that you can insert into your can by drilling a small hole in the spout and a small nut and bolt holds it in place. Your can is loud because of its length. You need a longer can to dull the engine tone, being so short your can is doing next to nothing to aid this. Call Micron and get them to send you a baffle, if you have problems i can send you a universal or a Micron one. You can cut them down if need be so don't worry if it seems too long when you get it. Once fitted your exhaust is road legal, even if it says otherwise on the can or straps.

Hope this helps...

Where are you located? Where I live and everywhere I travel in the rural parts of the United States, no one seems to care if a car, truck, or motorcycle makes more noise than a jet taking off.

Hi mr john
Hey,i bid on your bike on ebay just before xmas! I even spoke to' steve' about the bike with a view to paying the BIN price. I decided against it as he was very honest about just how loud that micron is!! and potential MOT problems. I eventually bought one with a scorpion pipe,as wonky points out,the extra length helps(!)tho i would'nt want it any louder!
Good luck and welcome. Ian, just t'over pennines in Haworth
