16 tooth Front Sprocket

Postby BlueRidgePanther » Sat May 03, 2008 8:45 pm

I was wondering if anyone had fitted a 16 tooth front sprocket to their bike, and, if so, how they liked it. JT and Renthal both offer them. I was wanting to start running a 16 up front so that I can run a 47 out back for in city riding and then fit something between 40 and 45 for distance riding depending on where I'm planning on going, how much I'll be carrying, etc. Any thoughts? I know I could just stick with a 15 and use a lower rear (I'm running a 42 right now), but I'd like the additional mechanical advantage offered by the larger front.

Had no problems fitting 16 tooth sprocket to my Skorpion Tour. Have 16/43 sprockets, up from 15/39 and have a 150/70 Conti Road Attack rear tyre, which has given the bike a great touring ratio. 4000rpm=100klm/hr(62mph) which returns around 60mpg fuel consumption. Local Yammy dealer should have 16t on the shelf.

Can anyone confirm that a 16t front fits on the Baggy/Mastiff? Perhaps there's a slight difference in engine angle vs. the Skorpion models.

There is absolutely no difference in the casings. An XTZ engine is an XTZ engine. It is a simple as that. And of course a 16t sprocket fits. Even Yamaha offers them.

Hi

It obviously depends on the sort of roads/riding you do.
I do/did a lot of B road stuff, including a bit of mild greenlaning on mine.

When i went up a tyre size on the rear of my Mastif,it seemed overgeared, and i actually bought a 14t sprocket to compensate.

I didn`t get around to fitting it before having to replace the rear tyre for one of the original size.

It instantly felt MUCH more responsive.

By the way, where is Bill J

Cheers
