Stumbles at constant throttle

Postby amahoser » Sat May 24, 2008 6:25 pm

I have an 03 Baghira SM. Bike runs great at most throttle settings including full throttle. But at constant throttle position (seems like less than quarter throttle) the bike stumbles pretty bad. As soon as I gas it, its again good. I had the bike worx jet kit installed and it seemed to be fine for a while but maybe it was bad since I installed the jet kit. (it only appears at a certain throttle setting). Any ideas?

Been lurking for a while 1st post. :D

Lean or too rich situation....you are beyond the parameters.
14.7 to 1 is considered to be a rich mixture, any more than 14.7 to 1 is a lean mixture.
Go back to stock jets and needle position and see if it goes away. Jet kits can be problematic on the stock carb.

Hey Hoser welcome to the website

Stop lurking and start reading Check this post out another 03 with the same problem I believe your carbs are dirty like mine were. at full throttle your carbs can't keep up with hte demand for fuel. I used seafoam to clean it out...

Hmm...
I did do a search and I couldn't find a problem like mine. If you read my post, my stumble is at mid throttle, not at full. At full it does pull nicely. Also, I did install a jet kit recently so when I did, the carbs were cleaned. But, I have used seafoam in other vehicles and it does work great. (Had a car that ran poorly at full throttle that I purchased cheap.... ran some seafoam in it and it fixed the problem).

HB7,
Yeah... I think you're right. I was hoping it was a tuning or adjustment thing that I did wrong but I'll replace the stock jets and see what happens.

Thanks for the responses.

before you do that...... did you have the carbs balanced when you replaced the jets?

Did you tighten up the secondary linkage screw ?
If the the secondary opens too soon, it will bog down mid throttle.

I didn't think you had to balance the carbs.... but if you mean the same thing as hb7, (tightening up the secondary screw). I did. Hmm, maybe i'll try tightening it up more.....

i'll try that first before putting the stock jets in.

thanks

My Baggy is now running smooth as silk!!! YAY!

I double checked that everything was correct but I couldn't find the manual that came with the jets so I called up Bikeworx and they listed off all the settings over the phone. I found that the secondary needle was on the fith groove and not the fourth. Everything else was good. Put it all back together... I had to adjust the idle up a bit and it idled better than it ever has, even before the jet kit! Smooth! Took it for a spin and the bike was flawless throughout the range. Wow!!! Awesome, just in time for some fun summer rides!

I'll have a few more questions for you guys soon... but for now, i'll just enjoy the ride!
